Ed-Tech Philosophy Prompt

Revisiting Version

Technology in our world has evolved so much just within the last few years. During my

time as an elementary student very little technology was used in my classroom experience at

school. However, after completing this course I feel as if I would have benefited from using

technology in the classroom and it would have potentially kept my peers and myself more

engaged. Due to the importance of technology in our today world and its abilities I’d implement

it into my classroom as a teacher for several reasons. Bringing technology into the classroom in

certain ways could help grasp the attention of students with their interests, add different

collaborative approaches, practice with technology for real world skill usage, and help more

learners by meeting different needs. Although always having hands on and non-technology-based

lessons within the class is very important to me as well. Meeting the needs of all learners also

involves hands on activities, working through problem solving, practicing skills on paper, and

working with others face-to-face. When it comes to technology being accessible to all learners, I

will always make it a priority to meet this need. Keeping the technology usage inclusive for all

my learners will have to occur within my classroom.

Throughout my time as a substitute and learning from my parents who are Early

Childhood teachers, and now from this course, I’ve learned the diversity in usage of technology

within a classroom to classroom. From this observation my preferences and views on technology

usage are continuing to grow. If I became a teacher now, I’d use technology for things like

connecting to the family/parents through different platforms to inform them and make better

connections with them to me as the teacher and to the classroom. Then for the students using

iPads or computers to practice literacy and math for some practice to allow a different and more

generationally experience. Using tools like Ted-Ed lessons, digital assessment tools, robotics if

the school has access, and personally I’d continue using teachers’ pay teachers to help add some

more creativity to my lessons. This will allow the opportunity for the students to enjoy this

approach and use it at home for practice through different technology they enjoy in class. This

will also add an extra level to my teaching where engagement will hopefully increase. However,

teaching and having them work through similar literacy and math practice using hands on

materials either in games, art, or the simple and needed skills through pencil and paper activities

for practice is still very important. From this course I’ve decided against using tools like class

dojo and limiting AI tools to grade my students work since I want to also give personal feedback

and always be aware of my students learning. I’ve learned through substituting the importance of

getting the elementary students moving and technology can help with this through brain break

videos and videos in which the students follow the movements or dance. Then during their

breaks such as lunch time and as they come into the class, I’d choose to play music through

technology or during lunch time around holidays playing movies. For some lessons but not all

finding a good video that can grasp the student’s attention while helping them understand and see

the material more in depth than as a teacher I’m able to explain and show. Although I would like

to incorporate technology into my classroom and lessons a lot throughout my days the

importance of collaboration with others is so important for elementary students and using basic

hands-on practices not through screens I’d like to implement daily. Overall based on each

specific lesson and day in my classroom I’d pick to use technology sometimes and others do not

use it.
