ACTIVITY TASKS
Today, technology has affected every aspect of our lives. Its presence is everywhere. Even in
education, we can see and experience its impact. As a learner, technology has influenced my life
significantly since elementary and up until now in college.
When I was in elementary, I was still clueless about what technology is, its use, role, and impact.
But I can recall that I had interacted with it in so many ways. For example, in school, I remember my
science teacher playing videos on her laptop to teach us more excitingly about our lesson. At home, I
watch cartoons on television, borrow my parent's phone to play games like Tetris, take my turn to play
FRIV on my cousins' computer after they finish their assignments, and so many more. Also, I think it
was way back in elementary when my friend helped me make my Facebook account. But I had no idea
at all that those kinds of things I've interacted with and used are products of technology.
In high school, I began to learn many things about technology. When I was in seventh grade,
we had a subject called ICT that taught us the basics of using a computer, Microsoft Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, and other essential lessons related to technology. In high school, I started to learn how to
use Google and YouTube, create a website using sublime text, and turn a photo into a vector in
Photoshop. Using Google and YouTube helped me back then and until now when I needed to search
for information via the internet to help me answer my assignments, do my projects, etc. In my tenth
grade in high school, I had my first mobile phone. Since having a phone is not sufficient enough to help
me in my studies, there were times when I often went to the internet cafe. Hence, it was then that I
started to realize how vital and helpful technology is to us.
Many technological advancements are currently being used in the classroom and have been
beneficial to the teaching process. In student learning, technology has also been a helpful tool. Hence,
when I become a teacher in the future, I will use technology to assist me in my teaching in the following
ways:
For example, during class discussions, I will use a flatscreen TV or a projector and projection
screens connected to my laptop to allow my students to see the PowerPoint presentation of our
lessons. I will also download and let them watch supplementary educational videos related to our
lesson to understand it better. This way, instead of the students just sitting and listening to the teacher
talk, their learning becomes more fun and exciting. It will also enable them to comprehend and absorb
the lesson quickly.
In addition to this, I can also use a printer and print my lessons in advance to give to my students
so that they won't have a hard time taking notes in the class anymore and can concentrate on listening
during the discussion. Moreover, I can use different apps to enhance my teaching and help keep my
students more engaged in the class. Aside from this, I will teach my students how to research
information online from reliable online articles and websites. I will also use messenger, email, and
Facebook so that my students can reach and communicate with me online if they have concerns or
queries. In terms of keeping a record, I can use technology to grade my students and monitor their
academic performance.
Thus, we now live in an information age where technology is crucial for enhancing student
engagement and empowering teachers to develop new learning experiences both inside and outside
the classroom. This is why when I become a teacher in the future, I will utilize technology in as many
ways as I can to improve my teaching and help my students learn more effectively.
