The Use of ICT on Curriculum Delivery

Instruction: Answer the questions below in not less than five sentences. Elaborate your answers. You
may research on facts/information about each question but make sure to indicate the source and your
own analysis.

How modern technology has evolved from traditional teaching methods?

 As far as what I’ve been experienced through the years as being a student, that there’s a lot of
changes were students are passive in terms of participating in class. Now in modern
technology /teaching method, students are not just only listening to their teachers but they are
involved and engaged. Technology has now been part of our lives and it’s really helpful
especially in Education because thanks to the internet, the devices that they are using now,
students now can easily access information with just browsing and clicking the website that they
are interested to. I can say that technology is a powerful tool now that can transform and
support our education in many ways. Right now we are experiencing online distance learning,
without modern technologies we might not proceed or continue in education because of lack in
modern devices and not having internet access that is why we make the most out of it to ensure
the quality education that is available to all.

What are the Challenges in Using ICT in Teaching and Learning?

 As what I can see and sometimes experience it as well are the slow speed of internet,
sometimes limited time to learn and to practice some teaching methods or platforms to use and
using other resources on the internet, sometimes lack of motivation both teachers and students.
Also according to my source (https://www.slideshare.net/amolsweetpain/challenges-in-
integrating-ict-in-school-education): Teachers are not trained and prepared before to create and
implement teaching materials themselves, and because of the pandemic, personally all of us
even students are not fully equipped on the learning materials today because some schools are
still used to the traditional method of chalk and board. Also before, we are not used to explore
different kinds of learning platforms on the internet, it may have a few platforms that we
already know but it is not enough to provide learning experience for the students. Having also a
malfunction of the computers or servers, sometimes it takes time to fix this problem. In some
cases, it can be also some rural areas are lacking on computers or some computer related
resources such as printers, projectors, etc.

What are the barriers of ICT use in teaching and Learning?

 According to The Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Technology source:

(https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ1086402.pdf) that conducted by Jones (2004) discovered
seven barriers affected the integration of ICT into lessons, the lack of confidence among
teachers during integration, lack of access resources, lack of time for the integration, lack of
effective training facing technical problems in use, lack of personal access during lesson
preparation, age of the teachers, and teaching experiences. From my perspective, it is still
difficult for non-techy teachers to adopt this new ways of teaching compared to those young
educators who can easily adopts the new technologies today. As what I’ve said before that it is
time consuming for some teachers like making exams, they don’t have the time to complete the
syllabus and there is a timeframe to finish all of the tasks. Some teachers also prefer reality
experiences than looking at monitors and in my opinion, we can still use both traditional and
modern teaching method inside the class because our 21 st century learners are more on
technologies and they can learn also through some traditional teaching method like let the
students touch, feel and learn. We can still be hands-on to our students through guiding them
equally, guide the slow learners and fast learners because we are the facilitators.

How is ICT used in the Classroom?

 According to my research:
How_ICT_resources_can_support_learning_at_primary_level.pdf) ICT allows the teacher to
produce and modify resources quickly and easily. Inside the classroom, it helps the teachers to
interact with students and giving opportunities for them to learn and apply 21 st century skills. It
also maximized the students’ abilities in active learning. ICT used in a form of online platforms
were Microsoft word and Microsoft powerpoint used to present the topic in a very innovative
and creative way that will lead into discussion and exchanging ideas and thoughts. I can say that
the younger the students, the higher their expectation are on ICT integration in classroom. So
far ICT has been much necessary for teachers because of how it can be an assisting tool like
making assignments, collecting data or documentation and also in real life classroom situation
makes students use their skills for their future occupation and social life.

How do the ICT interventions impact on the students?

 The ICT impact the students achievement are seen less effective or ineffective according to what
I’ve research: (https://www.infodev.org/articles/impact-icts-learning-achievement) and it rarely
seen as central to the overall process. But there is also a positive effects of ICT through the
specific uses of it on student achievement when ICTs are used appropriately to complement a
teacher’s method of teaching. ICTs also can be used in different school subjects like in science
and math it has been shown to be effective and used also as collecting information and
communication like e-mail where you can send your message using electronic devices.
Nowadays, students used ICT to make learning more interactive using animation, educational
videos and flexible learning. ICT caters different teaching styles to helps students to gain
valuable computer skills. And in fact, computers and ICT are things we cannot do without today
and in the future.

How is the availability and use of ICT changing the use of existing classroom spaces?

 According to my research: (http://www.cetpo.upol.cz/files/lib/28/818/eadie2001churchillreport

%5B1%5D.pdf)
Teachers integrating computer use into the curriculum, soon modify their classrooms to reflect
the changes in student learning behavior that inevitably emerge. Creating space in the
classroom for computers and peripherals such as a printer, network connection and large
monitor initiates a rethinking process by the teacher, leading to re-evaluating how classroom
activities and learning experiences work best. As what I have gathered information, technology
inside the classroom that is assisted and appropriate were students all students learn the same
way or to choose their own ways which will suit their own individual learning styles. Having
flexible classroom spaces, rearranging and creating new spaces inside the classroom were
computers are suitable and can access the whole class. Technology availability and
overall support is important to technology integration. The higher the support structure and
technology availability, the higher the technology integration efforts are made by teachers.

How is ICT use changing the way teachers and administrators approach curriculum delivery?

 As what I have read about this source:

ICT has brought an effective classroom integration were the students will develop various
intellectual skills, learning how to be creative. Majority of the teacher nowadays uses ICT. The
teachers and administrators mostly rely on ICT as a medium for teaching and learning. Using ICT
also, teachers had the opportunity to meet and collaborate virtually through shared networks
and other platforms. By using and acquire the knowledge of ICT, student teacher will become
effective teachers in the future. This new environment involves a change in roles of both
teachers and students, students will have more responsibilities of their own learning as they
seek out. Teachers are now more of an authentic type of learning and innovative use of ICT can
facilitate student centered learning.

How do the teaching ICT interventions change the traditional classroom scenario?

 To my own understanding about how do the teaching ICT interventions change the traditional
classroom scenario, ICT has been a tools for students and teachers throughout the years and we
can see how ICT change the way the classroom scenarios makes more easy to collaborate and
actively participate in class. Including myself in this classroom scenario was, I used my cellphone
to research about some topics I didn’t know yet and the reality is that all students mostly be
found using laptops/computers and other mobile devices to support their studies. Now teachers
as well as students participate in classroom discussion. So the teacher should prepare to cope
up with different technology for using them in the classroom for making teaching learning
interested. Using ICT, students can provide real-time feedback to teachers and then teacher can
assess and evaluate this feedback to change and improve techniques of teaching.

Instructions: Research on the topics below. Make sure that when you state facts/information in your
answers, you also include the source. Hence, do not just copy and paste your answers, you have to
include your own analysis and elaboration on what you have gathered.

1.Learning Content Management System

 According to my source and what I’ve read: (https://www.elucidat.com/blog/learning-content-
management-systems/) (https://xyleme.com/what-is-an-lcms/) an LCMS stands for Learning
Content Management System. It’s a platform that allows you to create, manage, host and track
digital learning content. You can think of it like a one-stop-shop for e- learning, from creation to
delivery. With an LCMS, you can expect detailed analytics that take into account things like how
long a learner spent in a module, which device they were using, which pages they visited most
and how they answered specific questions. As what I have understood about LCMS that it is an
online platform were you can create and track online activities. The authors who are using LCMS
provides them to create and have the access in all of the content in one location. This kind of
platform might help me in the future because it has a lot of features and uses of different variety
of courses and other lessons, etc.

2.Virtual Learning Environment

 According to this source: (https://tophat.com/glossary/v/virtual-learning-environment/) A

virtual learning environment is an online-based platform that offers students and professors
digital solutions that enhance the learning experience. In my own understanding about Virtual
Learning Environment is that it is where the teachers or educators used this as their interactive
learning platform. It is used for virtual communication and classes just like we are experiencing
right now were online distance learning has been occurred and what we called the new normal
education. I can say that our society is changing rapidly and our learners are now called “tech-
savvy” as what these words I discovered 3 years ago.

Choose 1 Learning Platform and be able to identify the following:

TED-Ed

TED-Ed — TED's youth and education initiative, aims to spark and celebrate the ideas and
knowledge-sharing of teachers and students around the world. The TED-Ed platform allows
users to take any TED Talk, TED-Ed Lesson or educational video and easily create a lesson plan of
customized questions and discussions. Users can then distribute these lessons, publicly or
privately, and track their impact on the world, a class or an individual student.

TED-Ed Main Features:

1. TED-Ed empowers teachers with free tools to create lessons for use in the classroom.
The platform allows them to take any useful educational video, not just TED’s, and easily
create a customized lesson plan around it.
2. Teachers can tailor video content to enhance the way students learn and interact with
curriculum. They can take a video done by another teacher and give it their own voice.
3. Lessons can be shared via. Email or social websites. When teachers share their video
lessons with students, they will be to watch the video and engage with the content and
questions provided on it by the teachers.
4. One of the most powerful features that TED-Ed offers is the ability to track and measure
various forms of engagement within each TED-Ed lesson over time. As a learner, you can
track all of the multiple choice answers, written responses, or discussion topic responses
that you save to any lesson that you have viewed, started, or completed.

This kind of platform will really help the students and teachers because the contents
and videos are relatable and engaging as well. I used to visit this website before and
you’ll see a wide range of topics there. We used to share some videos in our class
sometimes when I was in Senior High and It’s really useful, a lot of educational videos,
talks, ideas that the videos have been shared. For me, TED-Ed is an excellent resource
were you can find a lot of meaningful and can benefit the people who wants to visit this
platform.
