Muffy Lewing, Co-Principal Horn, has been playing the French horn with the

Frederick Symphony for eleven seasons. She earned both her bachelors and
masters degrees in Music Performance from Louisiana State University. Muffy
began playing horn in 6
th
grade, but her musical history dates back to her childhood
when she started playing the piano at the age of 7. Growing up, she was fascinated
with a family friend who could play his piano by ear. She began taking lessons and
still kept up with piano even after adopting the horn. Being left-handed her entire
life, Muffy chose to play horn in her middle school band because it was the only
instrument meant to be played with her dominant hand. One of her favorite things
about playing the horn is being able to produce the Star Wars theme song.

Muffy enjoys being a member of the FSO because everyone is able to come together
to create and enjoy great music. The orchestra acts as a social outlet for her as well.
She views music as a unique bonding activity that is meant to be experience with
others.

An orchestral experience Muffy will never forget was performing with Ray Charles
orchestra at a benefit concert when she was 23 years old. Today, Muffy is married
with two daughters and is the operations manger for the IT company. She also plays
the horn and piano for a local chamber group, the Kokopelli Winds. In her spare
time, Muffy enjoys logic and crossword puzzles, cooking, yoga, and studying
computer programming.
