Literature Review
-The research review Paper A National Strategy to Combat the Childhood Obesity Epidemic
By Lauren Kaplan was referenced for its historical data on childhood obesity, and to find effective
strategies that inspired our learning plans and interventions.
-For the 1 & 0 Program the ShopRite grocery store conducted a sugar measuring activity for
elementary school aged children
-This activity was deemed a success. The outcomes of the program revealed that they were
successful in captivating the attention of all participants involved.

- Introduced program to the children
- Separated into four different groups based on age
* Smoothies
* Bookmarks
* Handprints
* Taste testing
- After about 15 minutes, a whistle was blown and the
children rotated
- A group picture was taken at the end of the lesson
Two
- Recapped the lesson from the week before,
presented the poster
- Introduced this weeks lesson
- Divided the children into four groups again
* Bracelets
* Coloring
* Fruit Salad Game
* Soccer
- Gathered the children at the end for an evaluation
One
-We Presented the message of 1 hour or more a day of physical activity using a poster
-Surveyed children on knowledge gained from the short lecture
-Split up kids into 4 Stations for Mini-Olympics
-Bobsled
-Shot-Put
-Basketball
-Slalom
-After activities we re-emphasized how fun and healthy activity is & the 5-2-1-0 message.
*The children received medals as prizes for completing all stations.
Zero
-Gave a short integral lecture emphasizing
-Two good things water and milk do for our bodies
-What high sugar beverages are (lemonade & soda)
-We completed an object lesson on the amount of
sugar in certain beverages with our focus on
lemonade & soda.
*We surveyed the kids on what we covered.
-Fruit infused water taste testing

In conclusion...
The 5210 program provided an excellent
learning experience. We really loved working
with the children!
