Let's Eat Healthy!


Middle School Science,
In this lesson, students will learn how to make healthy choices! They will sort food into healthy
and unhealthy categories, and describe their color. They will then have the chance to get a little
messy!

Learning Objectives
Students will be able to identify healthy and unhealthy foods.

Materials and Preparation


• 15 IPADs (1 for each student)
• Access to the Internet
• Access to Microsoft PowerPoint
• Access to Microsoft Word
• Access to Google Drive

Introduction (5 minutes)
• Tell students that today they will be discussing healthy and unhealthy foods.
• Assess prior knowledge by asking the class who ate something healthy today.
• Discuss with the student various healthy and unhealthy foods using a PowerPoint slide.

Explicit Instruction/Teacher Modeling (30 minutes)


• After the Introduction slide. Spend 15-20 minutes going over the “Lesson 1 – Eating Well
PWPT”.
• Have the students grab their IPADS and follow the PWPT through the Google Drive.

Guided Practice/Interactive Modeling (15 minutes)


Put the students in groups of 5. Have them research on their IPADS three different Healthy
meals. When they are done they will put them in their own PWPT slide and present them to the
class.

Independent Working Time (5 minutes)


• Have the students vote on the Meals that they think are the best and most nutritious.
• The vote will be done using Microsoft Excel
• The teacher will tally the Votes
• The group that has the most votes will get excused from the Quiz at the end of the class.

Differentiation
Home Enrichment: Give students the Create a Healthy Lunch! Worksheet to complete at home.

Assessment (5 minutes)
• After the PWPT is over have the students take the “Food Quiz” on their IPADS.
