Specific aims of the lesson will be that at the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
Talk about comic situations in their lives
Talk about how they or people in general may reach to different situations
Discuss about a given topic (in this case comic, laughter) and support their ideas
with arguments

Stages of the Lesson
1. Warm-up:
The teacher checks if there are any absent students.
The teacher asks the students how they are feeling, and how they spent their weekend/ Saint
Valentines Day.

2. Lead-in:
The teacher will introduce the aim of the lesson to the students.
In order to warm up the atmosphere the teacher will play Just a minute game with the
students. Two students will come in front of the class and will pick up a card. Then they will
be given one minute to openly talk about the word that was written on the card, the teacher
is an observer, whereas the other students may ask those in front questions about the topic.
The teacher is going to ask the students the following questions:
What do you usually watch on TV?
When it comes to films, do you prefer: adventure/ comedies/horror/ science fiction/thrillers?
Why do you like comedies? How do you feel while watching a comedy/ horror/ adventure
film?
Some people believe that laughter makes you fat, do you agree with this statement?
The teacher introduces the title of the lesson to the students and asks them to explain it

3. Presentation: the students are handed in a paper with the new lesson. They are asked
to look at ex 1
a. Pre-reading: the teacher will start a short discussion with the students who will
have to answer the following questions:
Do you believe there is a science of laughter?
Do you think boys and girls sense of humour is different?
Do you think that the older we get, the less we laugh?

b. While-reading: the students silently and individually must read the text The
Science Of Laughter. They must identify the unknown words , which will be
explained by the students or by the teacher. While reading they must do ex. 1a.
they must say if the text related sentences are true or false. Then the text will be
read aloud and their answers will be orally checked.

c. After reading: the teacher asks the students if they agree with the text, and if they
have changed their answers to the questions the teacher had asked them before
they read the text.

The teacher will ask the students to read the joke about Sherlock Holmes and try to find the
ending to it. Then they will listen to the joke on CD and learn the ending. They may decide if
one of their endings was better.

4. Controlled practice:
In groups of 4 the students will be handed in some worksheets with some sentences in the
Active Voice, which they will have to turn into the Passive Voice. Once the students have
finished the sentences, they will come at the blackboard and write each correct
transformation, explaining their choice. The other students will correct their sentences.

5. Less- controlled practice:
Since Saint Valentines Day was a few days ago, the teacher starts a discussion with the
students on the topic by asking them:
Do you celebrate Saint Valentines Day?
What does this celebration represent to you?
Do you usually buy gifts for the loved ones?
The teacher tells the students that they will play a game
They will each be handed a paper with a short love story. They must read it. They may ask for
the teachers help if they have unknown words.
They will be seated in groups of 5.
When the teacher says start, they have to change their groups and make pairs with other
students. They have one minute to ask questions about the other students love story. The
teacher changes the pairs 5 times. Then the students must return to their initial group. They
must complete the questionnaire given, with the information they got from their pairs. They
must work together and discuss. The first group that answers all the questions is the winner.

If the time allows it, another listening activity will be done. The teacher will
give the students the papers with the listening material. The students must
listen and choose the correct answer. While listening they must also note
down some extra info, as they must support their answers. The answers will
be orally checked.

6. Feedback:
The teacher asks the students to do as homework the reading parts from page 14 and
17, from PET.
