Course Description
Welcome to Honors English
III! Our focus this year is
developing our skills as
critical thinkers, readers,
writers, speakers, and
listeners. Mastery of these
skills is not only important
to achieving success in any
classroom, it is a critical for
success in college, careers,
and the military. The quality
of life you experience now
and thorough adulthood will
depend a lot on how well
you read, write, and
communicate with others. Because this is an honors course, it
will be challenging. Be prepared to read, write, analyze, view,
listen, and discuss every day.

Plagiarism and Honesty
Its important that the work you turn in is your work any ideas,
sentences, or phrases used from books, articles, websites, or
other sources must be quoted and cited. Id rather have your
imperfect and partially complete thoughts than someone elses
words. We often learn best from our mistakes. This includes
classwork and homework. The only work it is ever okay to copy
is notes from class. Please review the consequences for
plagiarism in your Student Handbook.
Possible Consequences for Breaking Rules
Warning: verbal reprimand/reminder to student.
Detention: detention during lunch or after school.

With the rollout of Chromebooks, we will be utilizing a class
webpage for accessing many of our materials. Our web address
is: connershonors.weebly.com

We will also use the online remind service called Remind.
Information for access is sent home at the beginning of the
year. Please be sure to sign up for class reminders.

Progress Reports
Class progress reports will be sent home twice per 9 week
grading period followed by the report card. Again, the Student
and Parent portals are a way to check grades at any time.
Students may re-do any quiz or test grades below 80. They must
fill out a request to retest form.
Absence Protocol
Any assigned work that is missed due to an absence must be
turned in within 5 days of the return to school. Please
remember, it is the STUDENTS responsibility to ask for the
work (not during class time, please).
Independent Reading
All students will be expected to engage in independent reading
regularly. Although the majority of independent reading will be
done outside of school, students must bring a reading book to
class so they are prepared for independent reading when an
opportunity arises during class. Mrs. Conner will assign tasks
that require an independent reading book for students to
practice and apply skills both in class and for homework.
Writings
Writing is a focus in the junior year. Not only will students write
the research paper for the graduation project, but they will take
the ACT and NC Final Exams which may require written work.
Students will work on various types of writing such as essays,
short answer responses, journals, and more. The research
paper tasks will be studied the 1
st
9 weeks and the paper will be
completed during the second nine weeks of the semester-
several weeks will be spent on each part. Many completed
pieces will be stored electronically in Google Docs and
Livebinder. Please memorize your passwords.

Readings- We will read a variety of texts throughout the
semester. There will be at least one independent assignment.
