Your problem-solving notebook is your greatest tool for this class (other than your brain!).

Keep it
organized, and your year will go well. You may use this notebook during most tests in this class (unless
otherwise noted). You may not use it for quizzes.

Outside cover: May be decorated however you want, as long as your name is visible
Inside cover: Notebook guidelines
Page 1: Table of Contents. Use the lines of the graph paper to lay this out neatly. It should look
more or less like this:

Every other page should have the following:

Title
(Ex. Homework: Essay on Problem-Solving)
Date
(Ex. 8/26/2014)
Prompt or objective
(Ex. Write about a
problem that you have
solved)

Your work (writing, sketches, tables and graphs, etc.)

If we are doing an experiment, you should also list:
o Purpose (We want to determine which characteristics of boats maximize buoyancy)
o Hypothesis (I think that greater surface area will help a boat hold more mass)
o Independent Variable (Surface area of boat floor)
o Dependent Variable (Number of pennies held)
o Control (No boat or 1 square centimeter boat)
o Constants (Brand of foil, temperature of water, mass of pennies, height of boat walls)
o Procedure
o Data (table, graph, sketch, writing, etc).
o Conclusions
o Further Questions
