Information on Australia Awards Scholarships commencing 2015
Australia Awards Scholarships in the Philippines
Australias international development assistance in the
Philippines helps promote prosperity, reduce poverty, and
enhance political stability.
Australia Awards Scholarships are prestigious international
awards offered by the Australian Government to the next
generation of global leaders for development. Through study
and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to
drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links
with Australia.
Applicants will be assessed for their professional and
personal qualities, academic competence and, most
importantly, their potential to impact on development
challenges in the Philippines.
Applications are strongly encouraged from women, people
with disability and other marginalised groups.
Priority fields of study
The priority areas of study for the Philippines are:
Basic Education
Social Protection/Welfare
Peace and Development
Public Financial Management
Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
Organisation Development/Human Resource
Management and Development
Trade and Local Economic Development
Foreign Relations
Governance
Mining and Mining-related fields.
The governments of Australia and the Philippines regularly
review these areas of study together, and adjust the
emphasis of the program. Detailed information on priority

Level of study
The Australia Awards Scholarships provide citizens of the
Philippines with the opportunity to obtain a Masters Degree
at an Australian tertiary institution.
Awards will be offered for commencement in 2015 within
the following allocations:
Targeted Category approximately 70 per cent of
awards are for partner organisations (government/non-
government/private) with mandates that support mutual
priorities of Australia and the Philippines as reflected in
the Statement of Commitment. The Facility Board of
the Philippines Australia Human Resource and
Organisational Development Facility (PAHRODF)
determines the partner organisations.
Open Category approximately 30 per cent of awards
are for individuals in the public and private sectors who
intend to pursue graduate studies in the identified
priority areas of study.
Australia Awards Benefits
Australia Awards Scholarships are offered for the minimum
period necessary for the individual to complete the
academic program specified by the Australian education
institution, including any preparatory training.
Scholarship recipients will generally receive the following:
Return air travel
A one off establishment allowance on arrival
Full tuition fees
Contribution to living expenses
Introductory academic program
Overseas Student Health Cover for the duration of the
Scholarship
Supplementary academic support and
Fieldwork allowancefor research students and masters
by course work which has a compulsory fieldwork
component.

Eligibility criteria
Australia Awards applicants must meet all eligibility
requirements detailed in the Scholarships Policy
Handbook, available at:

Country Specific Conditions
In addition to these basic eligibility requirements, candidates
from the Philippines must also meet the following country
specific conditions:
have been employed for at least two years
not hold another scholarship
for Government employees:
o be supported by the organisation
o have signed agreement for continuing employment
for at least two years after completion of study.
Special conditions
Applicants are also required to submit Re-Entry Action Plans
(REAPs) prior to departure to Australia, and implement these
in their workplace/sector areas/communities upon return.
The REAP outlines how the newly acquired knowledge and
skills will be used to contribute to development in the
Philippines.
The PAHRODF monitors and evaluates the implementation
of REAPs and uses it as one of the metrics in assessing
the effectiveness of the scholarship program.

Opening date: 1 February 2014
Closing date: 31 August 2014
Applications or supporting documents received after the
closing date will not be considered.
The application process

All online applications should be lodged through

Supporting documents
Applicants must submit their application together with all the
relevant supporting documents listed in the Australia Awards
Philippines website, including:
Curriculum Vitae/Resume using the template from
www.australiaawardsphilippines.org
Transcript of records and Diploma(s) of completed
degrees
Certification of the Grade Point Average/General
Weighted Average
National Bureau of Investigation clearance for
International Travel
completed REAP Form using the template from
www.australiaawardsphilippines.org

For applicants from the Philippines Government:
Certificate of no scholarship obligation
Letter from the head of the agency endorsing the
scholarship application
Certificate of no pending case signed by the Human
Resource Manager (or relevant officer)
Clearance from the Office of the Ombudsman certifying
that the applicant has no pending criminal and/or
administrative case.

The selection process
Applications will be shortlisted after eligibility checking.
Only short-listed candidates will be contacted for
interview.
The selection process includes an interview, and
applicants will be assessed against the following
criteria:
- academic competence
- potential outcome, including contribution to
development outcomes in the Philippines
- professional and personal leadership attributes
including relevant work experience.
Successful candidates will be notified no later than
November 2014.
Preparatory training
All successful applicants will be required to attend:
- pre-departure mobilisation activities
- course counselling
- pre-departure briefing
- universitys Introductory Academic Program
(IAP)
- other required preparatory study on arrival in
Australia.
