Across Five Aprils

Why the last April is the saddest is because the war is now over and
many have died so they will never be returning home again. Also the
Creightons have lost two sons the war even though one of them is still
alive. The President was also assassinated and now the country has to
rebuild itself. These years for the Creightons have been difficult for them.
Matt had a heart attack and Jethro really had to step up and take care of
his family. Their son Bill fought for the Confederate side and will never be
returning home as well as their son Tom who was shot in one of the battles.
Shad was badly injured but there is always a silver lining for Shad and
Jenny married. The Creightons will also now have to let Jethro go for he is
going to be living with Shad and Jenny to continue his studies. Ellen and
Matt are happy because they only ever want what is best for their children.
I would say this April was bittersweet.
