Coolant / Air cooler and compensation reservoir

Strength Tests
Test data
1. Purpose

This standard sets the test data for strength tests on coolant / air coolers, coolant / air cooler sections and
compensation reservoirs. The strength tests include the oscillating compressive stress and vibration tests
and tests under temperature and pressure stress.

2. Scope of application

This standard applies to test and initial samples and to series products of coolant / air coolers, block
coolers and compensation reservoirs. Block coolers are coolant / air coolers which are used outside the
motor vehicle area.
It applies if reference is made to it in technical documents (drawings, specifications, work regulations).

3. Test methods and test data

The test data on the test methods is shown in Tables 1 to 7. If technical documents (drawings,
specifications, work regulations or similar documents) contain deviating information, then the values
specified in these documents will apply.
3.1 Temperature tests

The test data for the temperature change tests are shown in Table 1

Level of Acceptance: There shall not be any damage, deformation to the radiator and radiator shall
satisfy the requirements of pressure test.

3.2 Long time tests in the hot cabinet for compensation reservoirs
Compensation reservoirs made of plastic are exposed to heat and a constant temperature stress. The
test data for the tests being carried out in the hot cabinet are shown in Table 2. After the test the test
specimen must be undamaged and must be impermeable at overpressure as defined in the table.

Overpressure bar If determined by valve setting on the reservoir. A overpressure gauge is
to be interpolated.
