Standard Treatment Ecologically Enhanced Approach
1.) Bulkhead (Steel/Wood) 5.) Green/Biowall
2.) Rock Revetment
3.) Rip-rap
6.) Live Stakes/Joint Planting

8.) Sill
9.) Vegetated Geogrid
! Ideally representing high, medium, and low
energy
Description A shallow shoreline that leads
up to a non-vegetated beach. A rip rap and
concrete bulkhead are present and serve to
protect the park present in backshore. Beach
is exposed during low tide to erosional
forces of waves.
Current Condition - The current coastal
structures are degraded and eroding away.
They need to be repaired and or replaced.
Applicability to Project Site is an example
of a public site that requires an engineered
structure to stabilize its shoreline as well as
bring ecological and esthetic value to the
location.
Special Considerations large intertidal zone
Range of Currents 0 to .5 m/s
Description The site is part of a former
industrial land that has become overgrown with
large vegetation. Rip rap and concrete serve to
stabilize the shoreline.
Current Condition The current coastal
structures are stable and effective however the
site is expected to be developed in the near
future and a softer shoreline alternative is
desired.
Applicability to Project - The Hudson River has
countless former industrial sites along its
shores and this site will serve as a great example
for future sites.
Special Considerations The site is littered with
a significant amount of iron debris from an
adjacent remediated brownfield site.
Range of Currents - .1 to .9 m/s
