CCSS L.1.4.a Determine or clarify the
meaning of unknown words and phrases
using sentence-level context as a clue to the
meaning.
We will use clues in nearby sentences for
meaning, and then define unknown words. We will
then use the words in a new sentence to demonstrate
understanding.

This weeks basal story is A Fox and a Kit.
The genre is literary non-fiction.

CCSS RF1.1a Recognize the distinguishing
features of a sentence.

MATH focus standard

CCSS 1.OA.1 Use addition and subtraction within
20 (within 10 for now) to solve word problems
involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting
together, taking apart, and comparing, with
unknowns in all positions.

We use a Word Problem Template to help the students
organize their problem-solving strategies, and to encourage
double-checking their work by using more than one strategy
when solving the problem.
