Two-step movement Plant to Plant

By Willem Hoek
Within SAP Inventory Management, there are two methods how stock are moved
between plants using a !step process"
Stock #ransport $rders %&B'
#rans(er Posting
What does 2-step mean?
)*ample" +ets assume stock is moving (rom Plant A %Storage +ocation ,,,-' to Plant B
%storage location ,,,'.
#wo step means that two transactions will be used to move the stock. A(ter the (irst
transaction, stock has le(t plant A but it is not yet available at Plant B. $nly a(ter the
second transaction is it available (or use in Plant B.
Some reasons (or using !step movements %and not - step'"
+ong time span between leaving Plant A and arriving at Plant B
/eed to control when goods leave plant A but not received at plant B
Using Stock Transport Orders (STO)
Steps"
0reate a Stock #ransport $rder %M)-/, Purchase $rder doc type &B'
Process 1oods Issue against S#$ %MI1$ 2 1oods Issue 2 P$' 345 movement
type 67-
Process 1oods 8eceipt against S#$ %MI1$ 2 1oods 8eceipt 2 P$' 345
movement type -,-
#he use o( Planned $rders and Purchase 8e9uisitions are optional.
Using Transfer Postings (TP)
Steps"
Process a #rans(er Posting %MI1$ 2 #rans(er Posting' ! movement type 6,6
Process a #rans(er Posting %MI1$ 2 #rans(er Posting' ! movement type 6,7
#he #rans(er Posting can be done with re(erence to a 8eservation. Although this is not
used a lot.
Similarities etween Stock Transport Orders (STO) and Transfer Postings (TP)
Both use transaction MI1$ (or both steps
A(ter (irst step, goods are already re(lected in receiving plant and not available
!ifferences etween Stock Transport Orders (STO) and Transfer Postings (TP)
Movement types are di((erent
67- : -,- (or S#$
6,6 : 6,7 (or #P
Stock types at receiving plants are di((erent
! In #rans(er %MA80!&M+M0' (or #P
! Stock in #ransit %MA80!#8AM)'(or S#$
;or S#$, 67- and -,- is group together where (or #P there is no link between
6,6 and 6,7
S#$ re9uires more transactions than #P
S#$ must be con(igured (or the sending plant < receiving plant where no plant
speci(ic con(iguration e*ists (or #P
S#$ is based on Stock #ransport $rder %type o( Purchase $rder'. Where no
purchasing document is used (or #P
S#$ can be initiated with a Planned $rder or Purchase 8e9uisition
Planning %M8P' can be used to initiate movements, but only S#$=s
"onfig#ration re$#ired to #se STO
0on(ig" MM > Purchasing > Purchase Order > Set up Stock Transport Order > Assign
Document Type, One-Step Procedure, Underdelivery Tolerance
