My Philosophy All students are capable of learning if given the right support (at school and home) and tools
Learning needs to be relevant, engaging and fun
Learning needs to be a combination of hands-on learning, exploration, inquiry and skills practice
A growth mindset (from the teacher, parents and students) helps promote learning
A partnership between the teacher, parents and students is crucial for success A Day in the Life of Room 126 Morning Word study Building reading stamina and reading comprehension Building writing stamina and writing activities Mid-Day Building math skills Building math problem solving skills Developing skills in the arts (drama & dance) Afternoon Inquiry with Science and Social Studies Developing skills in the arts (music & visual art) Participating in physical education activities Classroom jobs/responsibility Community building and sharing Other Teachers Teaching Your Child This Year... All Grade 3, 6, and 10 students, across Ontario.
WHAT? A series of Language and Math based standardized tests that look at a students performance in various categories of assessment. (i.e., reasoning, inferring, direct text management).
WHY? The government requires all students to write these tests, in order to gain an understanding of how Ontario pupils are performing academically. The data is used to shape and benefit future Provincial Curriculum. Individual schools can use the data to focus on specific needs in a community/grade level.
EQAO - A Brief Outline continued WHERE and WHEN? Testing takes place during a week in May or June, in the students own classroom (unless special arrangements have been made).
I will keep you updated as to the dates for our class.
