Avon Invitational

On a rainy day at Avon Old Farms, Pomfret took 23 runners to race Avon, Suffield, and Canterbury. The
race marks the halfway point in the season, and its worthwhile to note that our team is relatively
healthy and getting stronger every week. Eleven runners set season best times, including Captains Jeff
Austin and Carlin Testa (tied his PR: 18:21), and 3
rd
and 4
th
finishers Zack Weimer and Chris Soutter. That
foursome of runners are great examples of the kind of competitive fire a coach relishes. They are not the
only ones on the team; there are several others who are stepping up their efforts. Brody Childs broke 21
minutes and set a PR, 20:57. Burke Freney, Charles Shehan, and JK Hong also had very good races
finishing within 28 seconds of each other, and very close to the varsity 6
th
and 7
th
runners (Brody Childs
& John Ross).

In the end, we didnt quite have the horses to compete with Avons 30+ runners. Avons top five claimed
the 3, 5, 7, 8, & 9 and their 6
th
and 7
th
runners placed ahead of our 4
th
and 5
th
. Looking ahead, for
Pomfret to be a top 5 finisher at NEPSTA Div. III Championships in November, its going to be imperative
that our 4
th
and 5
th
runners close the gap to number #3.

Our JV team also finished second to Avon. As mentioned several of these athletes are competing for
varsity slots each week. The sincere efforts of all our athletes helps to make our entire team better. JV
was a top 3 finisher at last years NEPSTA Div. III Championships; theyll need to stay focused to try and
match that feat.

Team and Individual Scores/Times are below scroll down.

Thanks to the Austin and Ross families for braving the rains and coming out to support the team.

This Saturday the team travels to Kingswood Oxford for our only dual meet of the year.

The below was written first.

More details to come, but both Varsity and JV finished 2nd to Avon and both beat Suffield.
(Canterbury didn't have enough runners to score, and Millbrook was unable to attend). Jeff
Austin finished 2nd overall and set a new personal record: 18:13.
