Task 10

Reflecting on images
- What do the clothing codes tell you?
The clothing that the students are wearing that are in my magazine, are just everyday casual clothes
as they are at college so they wont be dressing up like they are going out to a party. Its a life style
magazine so it would be based on day to day college life.
- What are their facial expressions? Why?

- What is their posture? Why?

- What roles and stereotypes are being represented...or challenged? Does the image conform
with or challenge conventional idea of male/female...young/old..etc?
They are stereotyping typical college students and are giving the look like they are enjoying college
and studying with all the equipment that is required.
- Is the representation of race significant in your image?
Who is being addressed (Audience)?
- Who is the magazine aimed at? How do we know?
The magazine is aimed at college students; you can see this because the main image is using direct
address as the student looking directly at the camera. The cover lines are also to do with college and
topics that would appeal to college students. The masthead is called Aspire 6
th
Form which is a
common phrase used around the college so many students should know what it means.
- What have you done to attract the target audience?
To attract the target audience I have used a flash which should hopefully attract the students and I
have used cover lines on the front cover that I thought would appeal to both genders. I have also
used a student for my main image and I have taken the photos in areas that most students at the
college would recognise.
- How have you made use of both text and image to address that intended audience?
I have used different styles of fonts so that they arent to girly (curls/flicks) or masculine
(bold/sophisticated), I have used ones that I thought would appeal to both genders which would
then attract them as our target audience. I have also been careful with the images I have used inside
and on front of my magazine because if I had used pictures of lipsticks and makeup it would straight
away attract more females and put off the males. But if I had used photos of body builders it would
then attract a male audience, so I have been careful in which photos I use for my college magazine.
