CATHLAB AND CATH RECOVERY

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
At the end of the clinical posting in the ER the fellowship students under the supervision of the charge
nurse will:
1. Get acquainted with the layout of CATHLAB & RECOVERY ROOM and the facilities including
safety measures in the unit.
2. To be acquainted with the staffing pattern and staff distribution in the area.
3. To have knowledge about admission, Day care and IP and discharge process.
4. Assess and assist in providing care for every individual.
5. Be familiar with various procedures done in the lab.
6. Be versed to set various trays for the procedure.
7. Be able to maintain strict aseptic techniques through out the procedure.
8. Monitor and document the vitals through out the procedure.
9. Disinfect and clean the SUDs and instruments used for the procedure
10. Get familiarized with various sterile packs used
11. Be able to pack and send the washed instruments for sterilization.
12. Get to know various policies and protocols followed in the hospital regarding patient care
13. Observe practices of staff in initiating timely care.
14. Provide emotional support to patient and family members.
15. Be aware of various diagnostic tests performed
16. Assist in coordinating care with various disciplines, diagnostic tests, investigations, etc.
17. Learn to correctly document and communicate information regarding care delivered and
ongoing treatment, pertaining to the patient.
18. Carry out medication administration and investigations on time as per doctors written orders
counter checking it with the charge nurse.
19. Check the equipment and their working conditions
20. Know about the importance of Handing over and taking over during change of shift.
21. Be aware of the policies and protocols of the ward and that they are strictly followed.
22. Ensure that the patient is comfortable and implement safety measures for vulnerable patients
as per policy.
23. Administer drugs according to drug administration policy
