A job description helps clarify delegated functions and authority; it is the basis for
determining the nature of development desired for the position. A written job description provides
information including the tasks of job as well as the job relation to the other job.
Asst. Chief Nurse – assist the Chief Nurse in planning, setting up and supervision of Staff and
Education Program of the Nursing Service.
Supervisor (OR) – responsible to the Chief Nurse in the management and supervision of nursing
and related operating room activities. In our set up, she is also responsible in the management
and supervision of nursing and related delivery room, labor room, recovery room, Nursery (NICU)
and Central Supply Room activities, in general, the whole of the Operating Room Complex.
Supervisor (Ward) – responsible in the management of nursing care and services in all in-patient
units.
Supervisor (ER/OPD) - responsible in the management and supervision of all nursing activities
in the Emergency Room, Out-Patient department.
Senior Nurse (OR) – responsible in the administration and supervision of nursing activities in the
operating room. Makes assignment of the OR nurses and does assistance during operation.
Senior Nurse (Ward) – responsible in the administration of a particular unit. Maintains the
standard of patient care. Supervises the nursing activities in her unit.
Senior Nurse (OPD) – responsible in the management and supervision of nursing and related
Out-Patient department activities.
Senior Nurse (ER) – responsible in the management of nursing activities in the Emergency
Room.
Senior Nurse (ICU/CCU) – responsible in the planning of an effective nursing care plan system
for the critically ill patient in her unit. She should be aware that ICU requires the highest form of
cooperation and coordination of activities from nursing, medical, hospital administrator and other
support services, so a clear understanding of their respective responsibilities and continuous staff
development is basic to the health team, specially the professional nurses assigned in this unit.
Senior Nurse (DR/LR) – responsible in the administration and supervision of nursing activities in
the delivery room. Makes assignment of the DR nurses and does assistance during operation.
Staff Nurse (NICU) – responsible in the management and supervision of all nursing activities in
the Nursery (NICU) Coordinates with resident physicians regarding routines. Supervise nursing
personnel assigned in her unit and sees to it that asepsis is observed. Responsible also in
providing continuous supply of emergency drugs, supplies and linens. Coordinates with the
Supervisor of OR complex of her needs and problems arising in the NICU.
Staff Nurse (ICU/CCU) – responsible for monitoring and total nursing care of the critically ill
patient assigned to her. Assist in the maintenance of equipment’s within the unit. Responsible in
the observance of asepsis and disinfection of equipment’s used by the patient. Administers
medicines prescribed by the physician. Follows up laboratory report and inform physician of
recent laboratory results. Charts and records all pertinent data collected.
Staff Nurse (Ward) – responsible in rendering nursing care of patients, supportive and
restorative of life and well being. Assess, plans, and implement nursing activities based on
identified health problems, through case findings, health teaching and counseling. Participate in
the orientation of new personnel and non-nursing personnel in their respective unit. Assist in the
improvement of nursing care. Act as a team leader and performs her duty to the best of her ability
for quality and patient care. Must be able to carry out doctors order within hospital policy and
legal limitations, maintains records, nursing notes and individual care. Maintains good relationship
with hospital personnel and public.
Central Supply Room Nurse – responsible in the management and supervision of the CSR.
Engaged in requisitioning, storing, preparation and issuance of supplies for all the clinical areas.
Supervises the cleaning, packing, sterilization and storing of supplies which will be needed in the
clinical areas. Keep inventory records and consumption’s.
Health Education and Promotion Officer (HEPO) – responsible in planning and implementation
of the Health Education Program of the hospital based on identified needs. Organize and conduct
health education classes among, personnel, patients, watchers, visitors and community as well.
Nursing Attendants – is one who operates at a level of workers trained on the job, to assist
professional nurses by performing routine duties in taking care of hospitalized patients.
Institutional Worker- Non-professional nursing personnel who have been trained to do some
procedures related to patient care.
Actual Performance
1. Escorts newly admitted patient to the ward/ or assigned bed at the clinical area.
2. Assists patient in walking and transport patient to the different hospital units by means of a
wheel chair and stretcher.
3. Wheels oxygen tank to patient bedside and replace empty oxygen tanks.
4. Mops and clean delivery and operating rooms every after each use.
5. Scrubs walls of OR/DR during weekends when not in use.
6. Helps in cleaning instruments, equipment’s and semi-expendable supplies.
7. Autoclaves and sterilizes instruments.
8. Assists physicians during application of cast.
9. Helps in cleaning and disinfection of patient area.
10. Helps in linen distribution and may prepare bed if nurses and nursing aides are busy.
11. May prepare minor bedside procedures under the supervision of a staff nurse. Ex. Enema,
shaving, baths and shampoos.
12. Assist in post-mortem care and transport cadaver to morgue properly identified.
13. Run errands for physician and nurses, relative to patient care.
14. Helps in cleaning furniture’s and bed of discharged patient.
15. In charge of bringing patient (cadaver) to the morgue, with complete identification.
