Job Description Staff Nurse

 Providing personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support,


or other personal care to others such as coworkers customers, and
patients
 Perform duties according to the roster and instructions of the
supervisor
 Assist the clinical, nursing and paramedical staff in health care
delivery
 Upon admission of regular cases the Nurse on duty shall provide
bed and issues hospital clothes to the patient
 Administer bath or cleanse the body of the patient as per condition
of patient
 Prepare necessary charts: for example the temperature chart, the
treatment ticket, observation sheet etc
 Ensure that the medical officer examine the case and necessary
instructions regarding treatment, given by him/her are carried out
without loss of time
 Read the reports prepared by the relieved nurse and follow the
instructions passed about the serious patients
 Ensure daily cleansing of patients i-e they are neat, bedding is done
properly and the ward is clean and tidy.
 Prepare the cases for operation and in this regard particularly on the
morning of operation day
 Record the patients vital signs, treatment, and intake/output as
instructed
 Accompanies the Medical Officer and In charge of unit during ward
round and follows the instructions passed about the patients
 Provide proper nursing care of patients including mouthwash,
sponging, attending the back, nail cutting and following the
precautions for bedsores
 Administer medicine and other therapy according to the clinical
instructions
 Ensure that specimens for investigations are sent to the laboratory,
results received and pasted/attached to the patients charts
 Call the doctor on duty in case of any emergency arising in the ward
 Supervise the distribution of diet amongst patients where it is
provided
 Write report and instruction for ward patients at the end of her duty
and gives over to the Nurse coming in for duty
 Provide/prescribe treatment for the minor ailments in the absence
of authorized medical attendant
 Render first aid treatment and refers serious case to higher level of
care.
 Record temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate etc of patients
 Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records
 Monitor, record and report symptoms and changes in patients
conditions
 Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients responses
and conditions
 Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess
plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans
 Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess
patient’s condition
 Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical
activity
 Direct and supervise less skilled nursing/health care personnel, or
supervise a particular unit on one shift
 Prepare patients for, and assist with, examinations and treatments
Ensure that the Ward-boys and Ayas take the patients for
examinations (i.e. x-ray, laboratory tests, operation theater etc) on
time
 Prepare beds/rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies,
and ensure that stock of supplies are maintained
 Attend to her duty in the ward according to roaster, while in case of
emergency or serious patients admitted in the ward, she may be
asked to stay longer
 Take over from the nurse relieved from duty and ensure that all
equipment, apparatus and supplies are available as given in the over
list
 Bring and unusual incidence that occurred in the ward (i.e theft,
breakage, shortages, and losses ) in the notice of the Head Nurse
 Ensure cleanliness of ward and that all articles are arranged well
Participate in the weekly campaign for cleansing and arranging the
ward items
 Maintain treatment book, stock register of medicines, linen,
admission and discharge register diet register, expense register and
abstract register up-to-date
 Assist the Head Nurse in her duties and performs her duties in her
absence. Prepares and keeps ready charts for newly admitted
patients
 Prepare indents for medicines and linen regularly to avoid shortages
 Maintain and update own body of knowledge and nursing
competencies
Knowledge, Skills and Demonstrated well-developed updated knowledge of the principles,
Ability practices and techniques of nursing care
Knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences in
ability, personality, and interests, learning and motivation, psychological
research methods, and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and
affective disorders
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including
the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment,
and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for counseling
and guidance
Knowledge of and able to apply emergency procedures
An understanding and application of Health and Safety requirements Strong
interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills Demonstrated
ability to work in settings with racial gender, economic, and language
diversity
Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently
Ability to work all shifts and all days of the week
A high degree of mental concentration is required with a proven ability to
work well under pressure
 Capable of bending, stretching and heavy lifting with good manual
dexterity
 Free from chronic infections, especially of skin and hands with high
standard of personal Hygiene
 Visual ability sufficient to undertake numerous writing, recording
monitoring tasks and safely administer medications
 Excellent hearing, sufficient to hear leaks alarm, monitor tones hear
instructions and converse with patients
Speech sufficient to communicate with clients and other personnel Being
aware of others reactions and understanding why they react as they do
Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
As Head Staff Nurse, you will be responsible for the following:
 Checking of uniforms, IDs of both male and female Staff
 Visiting clients, overseeing maintenance of files by staff and changing the file every month
 Taking feedback from patient about work efficiency of staff
 Keeping a check on the usage of transport by the staff
 Making duty roaster of the staff
 Conducting training for both male and female staff
 Submission of monthly assessment report of staff
 Weekly duty roster will be send to followings: Dr. Ali Raza, Dr. Rehana Asim, Mr Fazeel Razzaq
and Mr. Abid Siddique.
 Responsible for all affairs of staff nurses

Protocols to follow for the staff members:


 Head Staff Nurses must wear white uniforms.
 All staff nurses must wear the uniform issued by the hospital.
 Staff should be in uniform with their name plates displayed. Any staff without uniform will be
considered absent from the duty and strict action will be taken against them.
