Table 11 summarizes the possible application of open and closed loop transmit diversity modes on different downlink
physical channel types. Simultaneous use of STTD and closed loop modes on the same physical channel is not allowed.
In addition, if Tx diversity is applied on any of the downlink physical channels it shall also be applied on !"""# and
S"#. $e%ardin% "I"# transmission in case of transmit diversity, see subclause &.'.'.1.
(ith respect to the usa%e of Tx diversity on different radio links within an active set, the followin% rules apply)
! Different Tx diversity modes *STTD and closed loop+ shall not be used on the radio links within one active set.
! ,o Tx diversity on one or more radio links shall not prevent -T$., to use Tx diversity on other radio links
within the same active set.
! If STTD is activated on one or several radio links in the active set, the -/ shall operate STTD either on only
those radio links where STTD has been activated or on all radio links in the active set.
! If closed loop T0 diversity is activated on one or several radio links in the active set, the -/ shall operate closed
loop T0 diversity either on only those radio links where closed loop T0 diversity has been activated or on all
radio links in the active set.
1urthermore, the transmit diversity mode used for a DS"# frame shall be the same as the transmit diversity mode
used for the D"# associated with this DS"# frame. The transmit diversity mode on the associated D"# may not
chan%e durin% a DS"# frame and within the slot prior to the DS"# frame. This includes any chan%e between no Tx
diversity, open loop, closed loop mode 1 or closed loop mode 2.
.lso, the transmit diversity mode used for a #S!S""# and or a #S!DS"# subframe shall be the same as the transmit
diversity mode used for the D"# associated with this #S!S""# and or #S!DS"# subframe. The transmit diversity
mode on the associated D"# may not chan%e durin% a #S!S""# and or #S!DS"# subframe and within the slot
prior to the #S!S""# subframe. This includes any chan%e between no Tx diversity, open loop, closed loop mode 1 or
closed loop mode 2.

The open loop downlink transmit diversity employs a space time block codin% based transmit diversity *STTD+.
The STTD encodin% is optional in -T$.,. STTD support is mandatory at the -/.
If hi%her layers si%nal that neither !"I"# nor S!"I"# can be used as phase reference for the downlink D"# for a
radio link in a cell, the -/ shall assume that STTD is not used for the downlink D"# *and the associated DS"# if
applicable+ in that cell.
1or 3S4, STTD encodin% is applied on blocks of 5 consecutive channel bits. . block dia%ram of a %eneric STTD
