Topic = How to calculate the area, in this example, of a rectangle.

Area = Length x width
If Length = 12m & width = 7m
Area = 12m x 7m
I.e. Area = 84m

If you know the Area and length of a room you can work out the width OR
If you know the Area and width of a room you can work out the length, as follows;
Width = Area / length, e.g.
Area = 20 m
2
and length = 5 m
Width = 20 / 5 = 4m
Area = 20 m

and width = 5 m
Length = 20 / 4 = 5m
This can be useful say, when you want work out how many 1m
2
tiles you need to
buy to cover the floor of a room, i.e. 5 tiles X 4 tiles = 20 tiles (this can save you
cost!)
