A. Give the title, author, and genre (fantasy, science fiction, adventure, nonfiction biography, etc.). B. Describe the main characters. Be sure to include their age, gender, relationship to each other, and what kind of people they are. C. Explain the setting for the book. Remember the setting is where and when the story takes place. D. Describe the main conflict of the story. What is the basic situation your characters find themselves in at the beginning of the story and what problems develop as the story continues?
2. Select a two to three minute passage from your book to read aloud as a part of your report. Write down the pages from which you are reading and be prepared to explain to the class how the selection fits into the story. Practice your oral reading so the timing is two to three minutes and your reading is smooth and expressive. The total report should be five to seven minutes long.
4. Prepare an illustration for your report. It must be on 12 x 18 inch paper. Be sure to include the title of your book, the author, your name and due date. Use ink for your project. Your illustration can be hand drawn, or you may use any combination of computer graphics, collage, or magazine clippings. Your illustration should relate to the major events, the setting, or the theme of your novel. Do not just redo the cover. That idea has already been taken. Be sure to take time to do quality work.
5. Hand in note cards at the end of your report. They should clearly outline all of the information that you included in your oral report.
6. For your teacher, include a paragraph written in ink on binder paper or word processed, summarizing the end of the story. Tell how the story ends. Do not share the ending with the class. They need to read the book!
