The Hiccup Mouse

Once there was a little mouse named
ucy! She lived in the meadow with her
mother and "ather# and her little $rother
Harvey! She and Harvey got along very
well! %hey &layed in the "ields# went
swimming in the summer# clim$ed trees#
and even had tea &arties together!
ucy thought that Harvey was 'ust a$out
the most &er"ect $rother she could have#
e(ce&t "or one thing)her had a way o"
snea*ing u& on her when she 'ust wasn+t
e(&ecting it! ,hy only this morning he
had startled her so $adly that she had
s&illed her 'uice all over the ta$le!
-other had $een u&set and so had she!
.n "act# she had $een so u&set it had given her hiccu&s
and now she couldn+t get rid o" them!
She had tried drin*ing water# and holding her $reath $ut
the Hiccu&s 'ust wouldn+t go away! /o matter how hard
she tried to get rid o" them every "ew seconds a giant
H.0-01P would $urst out o" her little sel"! -ay$e my
"riends will *now what to do# she thought!
First she went to S*un*+s house!

How are you today32 S*un* re&lied!
2.+m -H.0- "ine2 said ucy 2$ut -H.0-
. have -H.0- the hiccu&s -H.0- and .
can+t get -H.0- rid o" them!2 2 .
noticed2 said S*un* 2Perha&s i" you
stand on your head the Hiccu&s will
"all out2 she suggested! 2%hat+s what
. always do and it wor*s great "or
me! %oodle oo!2 and she dashed o"" without another
word!
So ucy stood on her head and waited "or a very long
time! .t was very di""icult $ecause with every Hiccu& she
would lose her $alance and have to start all over again!
,hile she was doing this Frog ho&&ed u&!
2,hat are you doing ucy32 he
as*ed! ucy started to tell him $ut
suddenly a really huge Hiccu&
came out# and Frog said 2Oh my# it
seems standing on your head has
given you the Hiccu&s! 4ou should try ho&&ing on one
"oot while &atting your tummy2 he o""ered hel&"ully!
2%han* -H.0- you2 she said# $ut when she loo*ed u&
Frog had already ho&&ed o"" towards the &ond!
Ho&&ing on one "oot and &atting
her tummy sounded silly to ucy
$ut the Hiccu&s were getting worse
and she was willing to try anything
i" it would ma*e them go away! 5ut
no matter how hard she ho&&ed
and &atted# the Hiccu&s wouldn+t
go away!

everyone will "ind me!2 5y now# she was so $usy "eeling
misera$le that she hardly noticed where she was going!
7ust then Harvey 'um&ed out o"
the $erry $ushes $eside the &ath
holding a large# 'uicy $erry! 2ucy
loo* what . "ound!2 he
e(claimed! 5ut ucy was tired o"
$eing sur&rised $y her little $rother and she+d had
enough! 2Harvey, how many times have I told you
not to2 she started to say! %hen she sto&&ed and a
huge smile s&read across her "ace!
She reali8ed that her Hiccu&s were gone!
Harvey had sur&rised her so much that
the Hiccu&s had disa&&eared! 2Oh#
Harvey2 she said and then she threw her
arms around him and gave him a gigantic
hug! 2%han* you! 4ou cured me o" those
horri$le Hiccu&s!2 she cried! %hen she
and Harvey went o"" to share that
delicious $erry!
