Theskinismadeupofthreelayers.TheselayersaretheEpidermis,Dermis,and
Hypodermis.Theyallhavecertainfunctionstoprotectyouandkeepyourselftogether.The
epidermisisthemostouterlayeroftheskin,italsoprotectsinnerorgansfromviruses,
bacteria,andtrauma.TheepidermisalsocontainsLangerhanscells,whicharepartofthe
skin'simmunesystem.TheDermisisthenextlayerintheskin.Itmostlyholdsnerve
endings,sweatglands,andhairfollicles.Itismostlymadeupoffiberandstringytissues.The
lastlayeristheHypodermis,orthecommonnamethefatlayer.Itismostlytheretoprovide
insulation,protectivepadding,anditprovidesenergystorage,

Thespecializedsensoryreceptorsinthecutaneousandsubcutaneoustissuesaredauntingly
diverse.Thesereceptorscaneitherbeextremelyclose,orveryspacedoutonthebody.For
example,ontheupperbackthereceptorsare57mmapart.Meanwhile,onthethumb,the
receptorsare3mmapart.Thatisahugedifferenceindistance,butsinceyouuseyourthumb
fortouchingobjectsmoreoftenthanyourupperback,itmakesatonofsense.Thetouch
receptorsareclosertogetherthemoreyouusethem.Thehandwouldhaveclosertouch
receptors,thansay,thethigh.Itisallaboutwhichsensoryyouusemore.

areactivatedbyemotionalandthermalstimuliandarenecessaryforthermoregulationthey
haveageneralizeddistribution,withthehighestdensityonthepalmsandsolesThemajor
sweatglandsinthebodyarearetheeccrineandapocrineglands.Theyaredifferentintype
