The Fall Issue

Enhancing the Quality of Life in Juno Beach

Presidents Message
In the sunlight of awareness, everything becomes sacred.
Thich Nhat Hanh

Fall invites us to enjoy a new, vivacious season; and we enter

these sunlit days with reverence, gratitude and joy.
The Juno Beach Civic Association Board is dedicated to serve
our community with an open heart, integrity and promise. Our
mission is to enhance the quality of life in Juno Beach.
Our year thus far has been full and successful with member retention, new members,
and new sponsors eager to participate and be involved. We hold the vision that membership will continue to grow and prosper.
We held our first Sponsorship Breakfast in August at the Town Center. Floridian
Community Bank sponsored the event and Markus Hockenson, Sr. Vice President,
Company Store Operations, TBC Corporation, gave the keynote address. Fifty
business leaders were in attendance to network, share ideas, and be inspired. Their passion
for excellence and their allegiance to Juno Beach was evident. The affair was well received
and we intend to make this an annual event.
Please be sure to join us on Wednesday, November 19th to hear Author James Gabler
speak about The Wines and Travels of Thomas Jefferson. A wine and cheese reception
will follow sponsored by our new patron: Urgent Care of the Palm Beaches.
Please save the date for our traditional Holiday Concert on December 11th at the
Waterfords Auditorium. In addition to merriment and song, we will be presenting the
Lifetime Achievement Award. Floridian Community Bank and the Waterford will
again sponsor this grand annual event with Smolin, Lupin & Company, LLC.
On behalf of the JBCA Board, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to our
members, sponsors, the Town Center, the Juno Beach Police Department, the Town
Council and our Mayor, Mort Levine. We appreciate your support, leadership and
positive energy. May the fall season, now upon us, and the upcoming joyous holiday
season be filled with love, peace and joys of giving.

God Bless America and God Bless Our Troops!

Around Town By William Gee

Reverend Frank Wagner
If you travel Ellison Wilson Road you may not see it but
Holy Spirit Lutheran Church is there. It has a vital life and
a pastor to match.
Frank Wagner was born in Bad Nauheim, Germany. (I
frequently visited this picturesque town while in the service).
His family moved to Miami in 1956 and Frank lived
there for 23 years.
He was active in church work while studying at Florida International University but
his courses were concentrated on hotel and restaurant management. After receiving a
bachelors degree there came stints in the food industry centering around service with
the Prince Hamlet in Miami and the Sonesta Beach Hotel in Key Biscayne.
During a trip to Switzerland he met his future wife, Martina Messmer. They married in 1981.
It was shortly thereafter that Frank was thinking more and more about his career
decision and the ever-present thoughts relative to a call to the Lutheran ministry. It
was a tug-of-war but, of course, we know who won.
Frank Wagner entered Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio and did his
internship at Zion Lutheran in Fredericksburg, Texas. He graduated from Trinity in
1984 and was called to the pulpit in St. Petersburg, Florida.
He and Martina experienced a growing family during this time and they now
have four children; Jessica (Texas), Erik (Fl.), Monique (Fl.), and Mark (U of Fl.).
The ministry has taken the family to places such as Yorba Linda, California, where
they helped start a church primarily formed for people who did not attend services.
I can understand why the Church chose Frank; hes a listener (an art lost long
ago) and, also, a man of action. He is respectful of people and their opinions, and
believes that the work of a Church calls for concerted effort on the parts of pastor
and congregation.
He is concerned by the falling-off of attendance at some Churches. He offers
insight to this phenomena: The Church must be a home. When it ceases to be that
people will have no need to attend. The declining Church has become irrelevant
and what happens in Church is not affecting peoples lives.
That doesnt seem to be the case at Holy Spirit. There is now a pre-K school on
the Church campus, the Church building is going through an expansion period,
and the worshipers increase.
The Reverend enjoys water sports, traveling, bike riding, and any activity having
to do with his family.
Throughout our time together I continually heard the word service. He is dedicated to providing that to God, family, and his Church.
A nice fellow, this Frank Wagner, and a credit to our Town and those he serves.
