Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
NAEYC Standard:
STANDARD 7. EARLY CHILDHOOD FIELD EXPERIENCES
Field experiences and clinical practice are planned and sequenced so that candidates develop the
knowledge, skills and professional dispositions necessary to promote the development and learning
of young children across the entire developmental period of early childhood in at least two of the
three early childhood age groups (birth age 3, 3 through 5, 5 through 8 years) and in the variety of
settings that offer early education (early school grades, child care centers and homes, Head Start
programs). (NAEYC, 2010)

Brief Description of Evidence:

During the fall semester of 2014 in my ECED 243 class I conducted environmental observations.
Though these observations we had to present ourselves as early childhood professionals and go
into the early childhood community to complete observations.

Analysis of What I Learned:

Through this course I learned how respond to children, how to better educate them through
their environment, and how to set back and watch children be children.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard:

This course allowed me to get field experiences and clinical practice. Through researching
observations I learned about John Bowlby and Psychologist Albert Bandura. Bandura proposed
what is known as social learning theory. According to this theory of child development, children
learn new behaviors from observing other people who proposed one of the earliest theories of
social development. Bowlby believed that early relationships with caregivers play a major role
in child development and continue to influence social relationships throughout life. This source
helped build my knowledge, skills and professional dispositions necessary to promote the
development and learning of young children across the entire developmental period of early
childhood. I have been able to continue my field experiences and observe children from birth to
six years.
