STANDARD 7.

EARLY CHILDHOOD FIELD EXPERIENCES Field experiences and clinical practice are planned and sequenced so that candidates develop the knowledge, skills and professional dispositions necessary to promote the development and learning of young children across the entire developmental period of early childhood in at least two of the three early childhood age groups (birth age 3, 3 through 5, 5 through 8 years) and in the variety of settings that offer early education (early school grades, child care centers and homes, Head Start programs) (National Association for the education of Young Children). Brief Description of Evidence: While working with the administrative staff at Gateway Association during ECED 255 Generalist Practicum, I created a science themed family event to promote the tie between school and home. The event was centered on science activities that could be done at home. I set up a classroom with several learning activities that the families, teachers, and children could explore together to help build a stronger bond. Analysis of What I Learned: Through this activity, I have not only seen, but also experienced the importance of working with families to educate the children. I created the activities to promote learning and interactions for all children in the center ranging from age one through six. These activities were designed to help parents see what activities they can do at home to help foster their childs development. How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard: I used my knowledge in child development to create activities for the children and families that were developmentally appropriate for children ages one to six. These activities are to be done in a variety of settings such as daycare, home, outside or any environment that offers early education. In completing my practicum I developed the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions necessary to promote the development and learning of young children across the entire developmental period of early childhood.
