Behavioral Objectives - The children will verbally identify two ocean animals found in the sensory table The children will explore the jello and water with all five senses. B. Planning Thought Processes Context of Exploration Children created jelly fish with bowls , paint, and streamers. Children worked on sorting ocean animals into picture trays. Rationale Through doing ocean activities with them already I know they enjoy ocean themes. I will be building on prior interest in ocean animals and expanding on earlier activities. Anticipating challenges -Children not wanting to play in jello. -Having a small bucket of water to add ocean animals to if children do not want to touch Jell-O. 5. Materials Sensory table, blue Jell-O, water, small bucket, plastic ocean animals Are your materials promoting inquiry? Exploration and Wonder 6. Activity Procedure A. Motivation/Introduction Setting the sensory table tub directly on the floor so the children can see what is in it. Would you like to come see what I have in the sensory table? Can you tell me what ocean animals you see in the water?

B. Concept exploration Children come over to sensory table Look at the animals in the jello and water Children reach in to touch and explore jello Children take the animals out of jello and water mixture Ask children to find certain animals Provide bowls to let children sort the animals As children explore materials have a teacher create a graph and graph how many of each animal the children find C. Inquiry (Open Ended Questions) 1. What does the jello feel like? 2. How do you think real ocean water feels? 3. Can you name me the animals you see in the water? D. Closure I will have other centers open to go explore. Children we have two more minutes to play in the sensory table before we have to clean up. When you are finished you have sort animals at the table or come draw a picture of the animals we saw in the table at the art easel. - What did we discover about the jello? - What animals did we discover while playing in the jello and water? E. Assessment All children have had a chance to explore the materials. I will provide other activities that children will be able to learn more about ocean animals. Extension Ideas Ask children to draw a picture of the animals they saw in the sensory table Create a graph of the animals that we see in the sensory table.
