Hello Toes, How do You Do?!

Objectives: vocal / physical warm up


body part identification
expressive speech / character voices / high, medium and low sounds
singing / use of head voice
application of steady beat through body movements
creative movement
Procedure:
1) Lets say "Hello" to our toes ----- all wiggle toes and echo - chant after leader:
" Hello Toes" ---- children repeat -- (Hello Toes)
"How do you do? ---children repeat -- ( How do you do?)
" I'm just fine ---------- ( I'm just fine)
"And I'm dancin', too!" --- (And I'm dancin' too!)
2) All sing " doo doo doo" together while tapping toes gently --- or moving toes in a
specific way
3) Continue to go to other parts of the body ----- starting with toes, and eventually up to the
head, and finally the entire body.
At this point, all dance freely around in one's own self space, and with one's whole body
(All stand up when greeting hips)
Throughout warm up, children can be invited to decide which body part to greet, and
how that body part will move.

Model the first few times, then invite children to choose:
Hello toes
Hello knees
Hello hips
Hello tummy
Extensions:
Substitute clothing ( Hello shoes, socks)
Substitute names of children in the class (Hello James,. then James answers and leads a
body motion)
