I Am Not Going

A: (choose one line only) So are you going?/ So are

you ready?

A: (Shocked) Look, I am not trying to tell you what

to do but I have been where you are but I got
through it and so can you. All you have to do is-

B: No, I think I am going to stay here.

A: (Pause) Are you serious? Why?

B: Stop it! Just stop it! I cant take this anymore. I

need (Pause) I need more time. (Turns away from A)

B: (Pause) Its hard to explain and if I did, (Pause &

walk downstage) you wouldnt understand?

A: Time?.. time to do whatC walks in and interrupts conversation

A: Try me.
C: Hey, whats going on?

B: Ok.. (Slowly turns back towards A) I dont

think- I am ready to-

A: Nothing (Quickly cross & turns back to C to avoid

the situation)

A: To what? (Pause) Come on, ready to do what?

At this point, A & B should be both downstage with
their backs to C. They should demonstrate that there is
tension and something deep going on in the scene.
There should be silence as the audience tries to read
each characters face. Let your face & body language
demonstrate what your characters are going through

B: I dont think I am ready to do this.

A: So, you afraid? Is that what this is about?
B: NO! I just
A: Just what? Tell me

C: (Looks at both of them before speaking) Hey,

somebody wanna to tell me, whats going on?

B: Just leave me alone, ok! (crosses to avoid A)

B: Nothing, everything is fine.

A: (A follows B) No, I am not going to leave you

alone.(pause) Look, I know you are scared & so am
I but sometimes in life, we have do things that are
difficult. Thats life!

C: Are you sure? Because it sure does not look like

it.
A: (A turns towards C) Yeah, everything is fine

B: (Turns towards A & snaps) Well, thats not the

life, I want to live-

C: (Gives a nervous laugh) Well, it sure doesnt look

like it. Is there anything, (pause) I can do to help-

A: (snaps back) Neither do I but that is the way life

is. (pause/beat) Sometimes in life, there is pain,
challenges, obstacles & there aint nothing we can
do about it (pause) but push through it. You want to
know what type of person you are. You will find
out when the hard times come. You either going to
be a victim or a survivor. Its up to you to.

B: Nope (crosses SL or SR over to do stage business A

& C should not cross while B is crossing but keep the
stage balanced)

C: (Walks towards B) Are you sure? Because if you

need me to I canB: (This line should be said with your back to A & C) I
said No!

B: (chuckles) Who died and made you Dr. Phil?

Everyone should demonstrate that they are surprised

by the certain outburst. A should look at C & feel
embarrassed for C. C should be hurt and A should be
surprised at their outburst.

A: (Pause/ walks downstage opposite of B and looks

out towards the audience) Its hard to explain (pause)
but if I did, you would understand (Do not turn to

C: (hurt) Im sorry I just ... I just wanted to help

Scene

B: (Turn towards C) Well, you have done enough.

Where do you get off-

Scene/Spript Rules

look at B. Hold the position and the emotion)

A: (Tries to stop B) No, Dont.

B: No, I have to. I have to!

A: Dont ..

B: (Sanps) You have some nerve coming here as if

everything is ok because its not. Its not ok. It
never was ok and I am not ok. Im(Becomes

emotional)

(Everyone Pause. There is tension & emotion)

C: (Hesitate) Look, if you dont want to go then(Pause) thats fine. You dont have to go. But
remember this, you have made your decision & you
are going to have to deal with the consequences of
your decision. (Pauses then walks out)

There is a long pause and tension between A & B. B

turns and walks down stage. Then there is 5 sec pause
before B speaks

B: Takes a deep breath and has made the decision to

go. Changes emotion
(Choose one line only and a place or event they have to
do)
So are you going to (choose a place)

You must use the blocking that is in the

script.
You must use the pauses in the script and
add pauses where you see fit.
Do not add lines or change lines (There are
no exceptions).
Do not add an ending or an intro to this
script.
You must use a lot of body language and
facial expressions to show emotions.
Avoid sitting. /You must have blocking
throughout the whole scene.
Do not bend, fold, lay down, or take scripts
out of the classroom. If scripts are missing,
folded, or look messy, I will deduct points
from everyone who has that script number.
You may take a picture of the script but you
can not use your cellphone during
rehearsals. This script will be online.
All scripts must be neatly returned the black
tray.
EVERYONE in the group must have their
own handwritten copy & subtext. Each will
be an independent separate grade.
