Usage 1: Be My Guest
(Giving Permission to Someone)

A: Is it ok if I sit near you?

Usage 3: That's A Steal/ It's A Steal
A: At that price, it's a steal.
B: At that price, you had better see if it works first.

Had better + Verb1 (similar to should)


E.g. I had better go now or I can be late for school.
You had better be on time for the meeting!

* Should is for suggestion in general.


* Had better is for specific situation and there is always a
problem if you don't follow.

A: I was hoping to get a bargain (discount).


B: Next time, look for quality and not just a steal.

B: Of course, it is really beautiful. You have to pay a lot for it.

Fishy Expressions
1.To smell fishy (to suspect someone or something)
E.g His explanation is not reasonable and I smell
something fishy.

2. To fish for a compliment (You are expecting others to


say something nice to you)
E.g Sukie is fishing for a compliment from her teacher
because she is wearing a beautiful new dress today.
3. To live in a fish bowl (To live in a place where
everyone is watching you)
E.g Movie actors are living in a fish bowl because they
don't have any personal life.

4. To be like a fish out of water (You are not in your


comfort zone)
E.g I attended the party last night and I was like a fish
out of water.
5.Cold fish (very unfriendly)
E.g Don't act like a cold fish , Danny. Come and join
with us for lunch.

6. To drink like a fish (a person who drinks too much


alcohol)
E.g Don't drink alcohol like a fish if you need to drive
home.
