Literacy Sponsors:

1.Things or people that

affect someones
Literacy. Dora did not
have a lot of resources
like Raymond did
because she was a
different race and
socioeconomic group.
Raymond had
resources to
computers from his
dad. Dora did not have
those resources and
her dad had to travel
far just to get a Spanish
newspaper.
Opportunities:
2.Raymond was able to
have computers and
access to new
technology because of
his dad, while Dora did
not, but she went out
of her way to learn
Spanish and English
and contacted her
cousins in Colombia
and took the
opportunity to go to
college even if she
switched to a technical
college.
Access Routes:
3.Dora did not have
access to computers
like Raymond did, but
she had access to
family in Colombia and
she got a job in
translating because she
was bilingual.
Raymond was able to
have access to more
technology.

1. Doras sponsors
were a lot
different from
Raymonds. Dora
used her family in
Colombia and the
Spanish
newspaper and
library. Raymond
used his dads
science lab and the
computer store. I
have access to a
job because my
parent sown a
store. Other kids
dont have that
and they have to
go apply for a jib,
where as I already
had one.
2. Everyone has
different
opportunities.
They use them
differently. An
example in my life
would be that
every girl had the
opportunity to
rush and be in a
sorority, but only
400 girls did.
3. People have
different access to
things depending
on their
socioeconomic
status and where
they live. Ex: I
have access to my
parents store and
UNCC because I go
to school here and
my parents own
our store.
