Lesson Presentation:

Estimated Time: 15 minutes


Teacher will remind students of how the use unifix cubes when measuring.
She will model how to keep the unifix cubes in a straight line and not space them out.
Teacher will trace her stem and leaves.
She will fill in the recording table on the projector and explain through modeling and discussion where to put the data
Teacher will explain the steps of this process (and put a copy on the SmartBoard)
1. Count the number of leaves and stems on your plant.
2. Write the correct numbers in the correct box in the table
3. Spell out the number.
3. Measure one stem and at least leaf by counting how many unifix cubes
4. Write the number of unifix cubes.
Guided Practice/Active Involvement/Small group work/Independent Practice:

Small Group Work:

Students will work individually to trace, count, measure, and record the length of stems and leaves of the plant.
Final Summary/Closure:
Estimated Time: 5 minutes
Today we examined plants and measured them with unifix cubes. Lets compare our charts. Are all parts of
the plant the same length? Whos plant stem was the biggest?
Extension:
Label the sketch of your plant. Label the stem and leaf.
