The organization that I choose outside of my culture is Minority Association of Pre-Medicine

Student (M.A.P.S.). M.A.P.S. represents the undergraduate and post baccalaureate students of
the student national pre-professional association. The main objective of M.A.P.S. is to help preprofessional students reach goals in their specific field of study. I choose M.A.P.S. because it
interests me greatly. I would like to learn more about pre-medicine students or just preprofessional students, like what their field of study is in pre-studies and also what are some of the
foals being accomplished by the in this organization. While visiting with M.A.P.S. I learned that
they are being faced with stereotypes.
M.A.P.S. help student in multiple ways. For instance the help student by choosing their
career path. Who thy need to know, connecting them with professional in their field of study.
Basically make sure they are doing everything right or helping them do everything right in order
to prepare them for their professional schools of choice. I spoke to a student and asked her about
the guest speakers that have spoken at previous meetings Dr. Terry Konn has a doctorate
prepared health care professional with over 25 years experience teaching health care
professionals and founder of World Healthcare Educational resources, she came to our 2nd
meeting last week. She is a fanatical speaker. She was very open minded, shared helpful
information and was open to answering question. I am looking forward to more future guest
speakers. Because she was such an inspiration to me (kylie J.). And M.A.P.S. also does
community service work. As for the community they do various amounts of community service.
This year they are trying to incorporate one community service event every month into their
activity schedule. Not only does doing community service help the community but it also helps
our students build their resumes. The students that are apart of the organization share some of the

same interests. Most of the time they share a lot incommon, since the group is about bringing
diversity into the medical fields and other pre-professional fields in Kentucky therefore it is
really easy to connect with someone else.(Fred F.) There are events and opportunity for
students to help build a resume and experience depending on their profession of choice.
The students that joined M.A.P.S. face a lot of stereotypes. Diversity, ethics, races,
different professional not just medical field of study and interest. Some of the stereotypes are
positive and some are negative. Not all of the students are pre-medicals careers in this
organization. Some of the students are pre-pharmacy, pre-law, just different pre-professional
fields of study from pre-medical like most people would think that are not involved in the
organization. a comparison of international student and American student engagement in
effective educational practice, is a really diverse community when joining the minority
association of pre-medicine students, there is never a time when there is strictly one race
involved in this organization(additive research: adding value.) M.A.P.S. minority association of
pre-medicine students is for a diverse group of students and not only a specific type of students.
All students are welcomed and encouraged to join this organization to get involved and learn
more about opportunities and a direct career path to a profession they want to do. Not all of the
student focus only academics. Some of the students that is apart of M.A.P.S. have jobs, hobbies,
and is apart of other clubs. They do not focus all of their time to just this one organization. They
have to use their time wisely and be involved and alert of their surroundings while doing other
things. Just because a student is committed in M.A.P.S. does not mean that they cannot be apart
of another club, they have lives outside of M.A.P.S.. being engaged in educationally purposeful
activities: the influences of a student and institutional characteristics can take that individual a
long way in their career.( educational engagement.) The educational engagement is talking

about engagement o pre-professional students in just more than one organizations. How it is
good for them to be active and participate in more than just one organization because it it really
helpful.
