ST.

AUGUSTINE
PROLOGUE: St Augustine is Located in the eastern range to 1730 meters above sea level in the foothills of the Colombian
Massif.
Leaving Bogot by land are five hundred forty kilometers until you reach St. Augustine. Leaving Neiva (Capital of the
Department of Huila) the municipality of San Agustin is far from Neiva two hundred twenty-seven kms.
ECONOMY: The municipality is supported principally in the agricultural sector, commerce - product and services. Also, of
the tourism of the municipality.

-PARK OF ST AUGUSTINE

The Distance from town are 2.5 km west of the town.


There are one hundred thirtys statues within the Park.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM: Here are different archaeological tools such as statues, including 5 life-size
statues, ceramic vessels, jewelry and necklaces.
FOREST OF STATUES: Here are 35 sculptures of medium size.
THE LAVAPATAS HEIGHT: Seven sculptures form the archaeological attraction of this place.

-STRAIT OF MAGDALENA: Magdalena Strait is a tourist destination located in southern Huila. There, the flow of the
Magdalena River passes through a stone corridor just two meters wide.
-EL SALTO DE MORTIO: This geological fault can be seen from a nearby mountain that serves as a natural viewpoint.

GORGONA
Gorgona is a small island of about 25 kms which houses within a natural paradise. In 1984, it was declared as Unesco
World Heritage sites and the following year the Colombian State is recognized as a Natural Park. Prior to that, from 1959
to 1982, it was a maximum security prison for the most dangerous criminals in the country. Diego de Almagro
discovered the island in 1524.
MAINS OF COMMUNICATION: The first part of the trip involves arriving from Bogota to Buenaventura, in the
department of Valle del Cauca. From Buenaventura to Gorgona, the access is possible only on Aviator or boats.
ECONOMY: In Gorgona the economy its based on the tourism of the island.
TOURISM

Hike of Playa Palmeras trail: a two-hour hike between the Azufrada, Piedra Redonda and Palmeras beaches
The Sendero del Pan: a trail that leads from the village to the Interactive Center and the Archaeological
Museum.
Yundigua: a natural aquarium where visitors can snorkel.
El Planchon, El Viudo, Las Montaitas and El Horno are scuba diving areas.
The Old Prison Museum keeps the artifacts used by inmates during the time when the island served that
purpose.
