As a seasonal lifeguard, it is a requirement of the job not only to guard the lives of visitors, but to also be
interactive with them and to answer any questions they may have. Through this experience and working
with over 1,000 visitors each summer, I am confident and comfortable with communicating with many
people. This career has also helped quality of multitasking. Being able to watch the water, answer a
question of a visitor, and listening to all my surroundings has given me the advantage of being able to do
multiple things at once successfully.

As a lifeguard and Assistant Coach of a swim team, working with teens, children, and even parents come
with the job. Being able to explain what a certain skill is to a child and evaluating them their parents is
a commu- nication skill that has been in practice for me. The different age groups allowed me to test my
ability on how to speak to each individual, depending on what they feel most capable of understanding.
