Dartmouth, NS B3A 3Y7 May 5th, 2015 Gary Comeau 10 Mount Hope Ave. Dartmouth, NS B2Y 4K1 Re: Recreation Planner (Recreation Assistant) Dear Mr. Comeau, I would like to apply for the Recreation Planner Student Summer position at Oakwood Terrace. I strongly believe in Oakwood Terraces mission statement that residents should be treated as individuals that have the right to choice and independence. I experienced that mission statement put into practice while on my work placement there in January. I am currently completing a five week work placement at Parkstone Enhanced Care in Halifax, N.S where I have further practiced my programming, documentation, and assessment skills. The skills I learned at Oakwood Terrace gave me a strong foundation and the confidence to facilitate programs, document resident progress, and conduct assessment interviews. The Therapeutic Recreation program has enforced these skills and taught me how to implement goal oriented programming. I understand that confidentiality and maintaining professional conduct is incredibly important when working with vulnerable people. Each shift is an opportunity to learn and develop personally and professionally. The client/worker relationship should be a partnership. Listening and observing the client will ensure that they are being treated as an individual. I know that I would be an asset to your organization because of my previous experience at Oakwood Terrace. I am familiar with and have good rapport with the residents, recreation programming, and staff. I believe that I strongly demonstrated my fun personality, patience, time management, and communication skills during my volunteer hours and student work placement at Oakwood Terrace. I would like to thank you at this time for looking at my resume. I would gladly be available for an interview upon request. I can be reached by telephone at 506-536-8507 or by email at w0276073@nscc.ca. For more information on me, please visit my online portfolio at sjcoombs.weebly.com. Sincerely, Stacy Coombs
