    Sentence Structure
    I can write sentences using the conjunctions
    when, before, after, while, because at the
    beginning and within sentences, creating
    subordinate clauses
    I can use time adverbs when writing sentences
    I can use ly adverbs when writing sentences
    I can use prepositions when writing sentences (eg
    before, after, during, in, because of)
    I can experiment with interesting vocabulary (eg
    powerful verbs and adjectives)
    I can use similes effectively to describe

    Text Structure
    I know paragraphs are used to organise related
    ideas and attempt to use them
    I can use the past and present perfect tense
    I can set out my writing using sub-headings

    Punctuation
    I am beginning to use speech marks/inverted
    commas to show someone is talking (direct speech)
