Mobile computing When a device is portable and capable of wireless
communication.
WiFi Allows mobile devices to connect through a wireless access point.
WAP Wireless Access Point
PDA Personal Digital Assistants
Why are mobile computing devices so popular?
It is able to connect to the internet from anywhere. Also they are light to carry and
smaller in size.

What are some of the difference/advantages/disadvantages between web-based
email and an e-mail software that can be installed on your computer?
An email software that is already installed on your computer is much faster to use
then webmail also it is less private and secure problems than webmail.

Networks
LAN Local Area Network

Intranet A private network that is usually larger than a LAN

WAN Wide Area Networks

Internet Huge network of between 350-500 million computers

WWW World Wide Web

Webpage A single web document containing text,links, photos and other types of
multimedia

Website A bunch of webpages usually maintained by the same person or


organixation/company.

Web Browser To see webpages you use your web browser, a software application
that transforms information from the internet into webpages.

Here are some items (numbered from the picture above) that are common to web
browsers:
