Heat Transfer

What is heat transfer ?

Heat transfer (or heat) is thermal energy which happens
when there is a temperature difference between objects.

Heat always moves from a warmer place to a cooler

place.

That means:

Hot objects in a cooler room will cool to room temperature.

E.g. A cup of hot tea left in a room will cool until its temperature
reaches room temperature.

Cold objects in a warmer room will heat up to room temperature.

E.g. An ice cube left on the table will warm up and melt until its
temperature will reach room temperature.

Know we will talk about 3 ways of

heat transfer:

Methods of heat transfer

Conduction

Convection

Radiation

Now we will show you small

experiment.

Conduction
Is the transfer of energy through
a material without motion of the
material as a whole.

Conduction can transferred in sold

for example:

cooper, iron, Stan steel and selver.

Now we will show you small

experiment.

Convection
Is the movement of the material itself.

Convection can transferred in fluids (liquids and gases)

for example:

water and oil.

Now we will show you small

experiment.

Radiation
Is the transfer of energy by the emission of
electromagnetic waves, which carry energy
away form the emitter.

Radiation does not require any medium to transfer

for example:

Sunlight transferred into the Earth.

Glass
Iron
copper
steel
Gold
Zinc

Wood
Silver
Oil
Plastic
Water
Nylon

Stan steel
Rubber
Platinum
Aluminum
No medium

1) Define Heat Transfer?

Heat transfer always moves from a warmer place to a cooler
place.

2) What are the three ways of transferring heat?

Conduction & Convection & Radiation.

3) In which medium heat can be transferred through?

Conduction (solids because of free electrons).
Convection: fluids (liquids and gases).
Radiation: no medium (electromagnetic waves).
