Starter What is cloud computing?


Cloud computing is using computer services on another organizations computers which are called hosts.
The services are provided by organizations known as hosting companies.
1. Name some well known hosting companies that provide cloud services.

Cloud storage is related to cloud computing and is where only the hosting company provides the storage,
access and retrieval facilities.
2. What are the benefits of cloud storage?

4. What does ubiquitous mean?


Ubiquitous means having the ability to be everywhere all the time.
5. Write down a definition for ubiquitous computer systems?
Ubiquitous computer systems is where computing can be everywhere and anywhere. It can also be used
on any device in any location or format.
6. What are some examples of ubiquitous computing?
The Internet
Facebook
Radio
Appliances
Clothing
Vehicles
RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification
6. What does RFID do? How does it work? (Use an example)
RFID uses radio waves to transfer data to tag an object or person so that they can be tracked and
identified. These contains data which is stored electronically and can be transmitted.
Plenary What are some futuristic examples of ubiquitous computing?

a. A car that can inform the owner that it needs service. The vehicle can also book
itself into a garage and place orders for any parts that may be needed.
b. A fridge that can monitor its contents and compile an order of food that is
used. Also it can add items to the owners online shopping account.
c. Virtual animals with digital minds. Scientists may be able to emulate the
brains of animals and put them into robotic avatars.
