    Marcos Antonio Cruz was born and raised in Los Angeles, California to parents who immigrated from Oaxaca, Mexico with the goal of their children succeeding. He witnessed violence and crime growing up, including seeing homeless people and hearing gunshots regularly. In seventh grade, he had to be careful of how he dressed to avoid potential violence or death. He enjoys helping people and animals without expecting anything in return, which brings him satisfaction. He also wants to become a detective to help others and properly catch criminals, as his uncle was murdered but the criminal was never caught.

    Personal statement
    I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. A city that many look
    down upon because of the violence there is here. My parents came from a little
    town from Oaxaca, Mexico. They came with a mind for their children to succeed.
    When I was growing up I saw many things I wouldnt like for other kids to see. I
    saw many bums around where I lived and there was never a day when you
    wouldnt hear a gun shot. When I was in seventh grade I was always careful of
    what I whore because even the way you dressed could have gotten you killed. A
    good thing about me is that I enjoy helping people and animals without asking for
    anything in return but a smile on a persons face, which is my satisfaction. I also
    like many thing that have to do with solving crime because there are many people
    who have been murdered like my uncle and the criminal has not been caught. That
    is also why I would love to become a detective because I love helping others out
    and would love to put criminals in jail instead of a person in which is blamed on
    for a crime they have not done. I am A person who listens to what you have to say
    because I respect peoples ideas and also learn from their ideas.
