Palma.More and more
families visiting Spain are
now looking for that extra
comfort and properties
with saunas, Jacuzzis,

gyms, heated swimming

pools, outdoor cinemas , air
conditioning in the garden,
massage rooms, padel
courts and private yachts
are all now growing in demand.
According to a report published yesterday by a holiday rental website, there
has been a 53 percent increase in demand for luxury
properties this year compared with 2013.
And this despite, as the

website points out, prices

ranging from 1,000 euros
per night up to 6,000 euros
for some of the most exclusive and luxury rental properties, prices far from affordable for many holiday
makers.
The property rental website, which has over 300
luxury properties advertised on its page, confirmed
family celebrations, hen
and stag parties, honeymoons and romantic breaks

are the main reasons behind the surge in demand.

Guests have a wide range of
options available to them,
with windmills, houses
decorated with art work,
houses inspired by the XVII
century philosophical
movement Rationalism
and properties in olive
groves amongst the choices
available.
Within the Balearics,
Andraitx has been the area
in most demand by visitors.

EU assures decision to stop oil prospecting

plans is in the governments hands
Palma.Balearic party
Esquerra Unida (EU)
claimed yesterday that the
government can and
should put an end to oil
prospecting plans in
Balearic waters.
According to the party
there are no legal boundaries from stopping the government to put an end to
those plans adding that if
they stop it now the costs
could be significantly lower
than if they allow them to
continue. Oil prospecting
in local waters has divided
public opinion of late with
many complaining it could

affect not only the tourism

trade but also cause irreversible damage to the local
flora and fauna, while others defend it saying it could
generate an important

source of revenue to the region as well as create more

jobs. A spokesperson from
EU criticised the two main
political parties, Partido
Popular (PP) and PSOE So-

cialist Party for giving different speeches depending

on where they are in the
case of the PP while accusing the PSOE of wanting to
place themselves as the
main opposition to the project when behind the
scenes they support the
project. EU also slammed
the PP for its refusal to intervene while outstanding
environmental reports are
still to be delivered, while
the government is already
working on an appeal, a
sign that EU believes is
clear, the report could be
damaging to the plan.

Palma.A global success.

That is how organisers of
the 31st edition of Palmas
International Boat Show,
which ended on Sunday,
described the impact of the
event. Both in terms of visitors, number of stands and
moorings.
Overall, throughout the
five days the event lasted,
32,000 visitors visited the
trade fair.
The number of stands on
display and mooring s available had been increased by
20 percent and 75 percent
respectively compared
with 2013.
That alongside the overall
profile of visitors, amount
of business generated and
customer satisfaction levels, left Chema Sans, director of the event, understandably proud.
The level of quality of

this event has been more

present than ever this year
and it has been a reference
point in the city.
More than the overall
numbers the profile of the
majority of visitors has also
changed. While last year
many just stopped by to
visit, this year many
showed a real interest in investing in the trade, Sans
added.
Sans also explained the
complimentary offer also
benefited from the new
profile of the visitors, with
sales rising not only in the
number of boats sold but
also equipment and supporting material.
So much so that 90 percent of businesses which
had a stand at this years
show have said they are
keen to repeat their presence next year.
