With your commitment to the North Bay Ski Racing Club (NBSRC) you have become a proud member of one
of the finest Ski Racing programs in the Northern Ontario Division. You will be part of a group that will be
scrutinized more than many other people in your same age group. Everything you say or do can be reflected
on you, your family and the NBSRC program. Be proud of your status as a member of this organization.
There are many kids in this area and other areas that will be dreaming of someday being in the position that
you are in this year.
The coaching staff expects you to act like quality athletes on and off the snow. To ensure that we meet these
ideals, lets make sure we understand these EXPECTATIONS.
PROVINCIAL LAW/ SCHOOL POLICIES:
You are expected to be both law abiding members of the community and a responsible member
of the student body.
Drinking:
The drinking age in Ontario is 19. This is the expectation for all provinces that we are skiing in.
Any drinking violations will result in suspension or expulsion from the program.
Tobacco:
Drug use of any kind will lead to immediate expulsion from the program.
Drugs:
Stealing:
Diversity:
In our society, in this day and age, more than ever we need to be sensitive to and respectful of
the rights and values of others.
These people are here to help you and deserve your respect and appreciation.
Remember, they are doing their job and they too have orders to follow and rules to abide by.
Note: No racer shall ever show any disrespect to an adult. If situations arise that there are
disagreements, the racer should listen, take in what is being said and later, if you still disagree,
approach the adult again to discuss your perspective.
Coaches and Board Members:
They are responsible for the North Bay Ski Racing team.
All coaches have an open door policy and we encourage you to share your problems, personal
or otherwise, with us.
Teammates:
Go out of your way to get along with every one of your teammates.
If we are here to learn, develop, have fun and try our best to win, we need to have everyone feel
they have a positive role in making that happen.
The North Bay Ski Racing Club holds an on-hill/ off-hill violence policy that is defined as the
exercise of physical force by an athlete, towards coaches, fellow athletes, or parents (and not limited
to), that causes (or could cause) physical injury. This policy also includes the attempt to exercise
physical force against coaches, fellow athletes, or parents (and not limited to); as well as any
statements and/or behaviour that could reasonably be interpreted as a threat to exercise physical force
against coaches, fellow teammates, or parents (and not limited to). Threatening and/or violent behavior
will not be tolerated. All athletes engaging in such behavior are subject to disciplinary action, which
may include suspension or dismissal.

Unexcused school absences will not be tolerated. Unexcused absences will be handled directly
by the parents and can be extended to the coach. The athlete can miss races, training or tear down
and set up duty can be assigned as discipline.
Late assignments and catching up on school work will be handled directly by the athletes
parents and can be extended to the coach. If necessary, the athlete can miss races, training or tear
down and set up duty can be assigned as discipline.
Grades:
Under ___ % Average (in a marking period) will lead to an academic review with the teacher
and the parents. There needs to be communication between teachers and parents, as a lot of school is
missed during ski season. Students cannot fall behind.
Under ___ % Average will lead to missing races and training to devote more needed time
towards academics.
Parents set the % to what you feel fitting and what you feel is achievable.
Illness: If you are unable to attend school due to illness, you must contact Coach Jason Sullivan if there is a
scheduled club event that day.
The North Bay Ski Racing Clubs policy for missing class is that you have one day for each
missed day of school to complete make up work, quizzes or tests. In the case of extended trips, you
will be allowed a maximum of three days to make up your work.
You must bring your study materials on the road. We will have mandatory study time at the
hotel, chalets, etc. Make sure that you have your homework for that time frame you will miss from all
your teachers.
Obey the Three Row Rule. Statistics reveal that sitting in the first three rows of class dictates
grades ranging from As to Cs. Statistics also reveal that sitting in the last three rows dictates grades
ranging from Ds to Fs. Our Three Row Rule states that you can sit in the first three rows if you
choose, but you definitely cannot sit in the back three rows.

Absolutely NO boys/girls in the homes, hotels, and or chalets without the approval of the housing
family and a member of that family must be in the house while he or she is there. All doors must be left
open.
Curfew is 9:00 PM on school nights, 9:00 PM on weekends (can and will charge from time to
time). If there are going to be variations to this schedule, contact your head coach and or host family.
Curfew violations will be handled by Coach Sullivan and the racers family and or host family. The host
family OR COACHES have the right to make curfew earlier if they wish.
All long distance phone calls must be made with personal cellular phones, calling cards or
collect calls, not billed to chalets or hotel bills.
When training and at races, or any team function, please put cellular phones away. They should
only be used to contact parents or in case of an emergency. NO TEXT MESSAGING. Cell phones are
a distraction to learning and training, as well as team unity and bonding (team atmosphere).
All overnight stays in other racers chalets, homes, etc. must be approved by the coaches and
families.
Out of consideration and courtesy, all racers are expected to give advance notice to their family
or their host family if they will not be attending a meal.
Racers must have permission from their parents to leave town for both day trips and overnight
stays.
Racers will not drive host family vehicles without expressed permission, license and proper
proof of insurance.
Please note: You are expected to respect the host family and their rules. Respect not only the
people involved, but their privacy as well.
NO pop, chips or chocolate bars on training or race days and all other times spent with
the NBSRC (There are far better alternatives). Coaches do not want to be monitoring athletes' diets;
please educated yourselves on alternatives and healthier food choices to help your body perform.

Treatments and rehabilitation are designed to return you to full competitive participation.
If you fail to comply with the following rules and regulations, you are cheating yourself.
All racers will be subject to disciplinary actions by the coaching staff for the following infractions.
1. You must follow your injury rehab program until cleared by a doctor with a written note or a
parent/athlete release form. 2. You must show up for daily treatments, rehab programs set up by your
doctor or therapist.
SCHOOL INJURIES AND ILLNESSES:
Your school nurse is responsible for all injuries and illnesses that occur in school.
If you get sick and must go home, it is YOUR responsibility to call Coach Jason Sullivan and tell
him that you will not be at any ski training or race related functions that day.
We all get sick, so DO NOT assume you are dying. Call your parents, inform them of the
problem, then go home and get some rest and drink plenty of fluids. While in your parents house, you
normally will not go immediately to the physician, so do not assume that you will go immediately to the
physician while with the North Bay Ski Racing Club.
PHYSICAL FITNESS:
Total body conditioning, year round conditioning and proper diet are the most important factors
to help you fight injuries and illnesses.
You will not be in race shape post-rehabilitation programs, so do not assume you are ready.
Total body conditioning allows you the most important aspect of your training, RECOVERY.
The better conditioned you are the easier you can recover between runs as well as with
consecutive races.
Hydration (drinking water and Gatorade (G2 is much better) is extremely important.
If you lose 5% of your body weight in fluids (i.e. sweating/dehydration) you lose 20% efficiency
in working/performance. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BODY!!!

Please note: Our coaching staff will make arrangements for hotels, chalets, etc. for the
NBSRC families.
Please understand and respect your billet family, and that it might have their own chalet hotel
rules. Your athlete is expected to follow the same rules their own children follow.
We expect your young adult to respect the family and their Hotel or Chalet. Respect not only
the people involved, their furnishing and their property, but their privacy as well.
Phone calling. Please, out of consideration and courtesy, do not call during dinner time and
make your call before 9:00 PM. We also ask to limit your day to day calls.
Please give your racer every chance to ski their best on race and training days. That requires
proper rest and nutrition. We need your assistance.
If your athlete is staying with you off-site of the team (where the team is not staying), we
recommend getting proper rest by sleeping in a bed or on a cot-bed. Sleeping in an overcrowded
room, sleeping in a bathtub or on the floor will not give the athlete the rest they need.
On the day of races, prior to the race, please keep your athlete off their feet. Running around,
fooling around, or sight-seeing for a couple of hours will not give your athlete a chance to perform to the
best of their ability.
Please note: when racing (the night before or day of race), no swimming! Swimming is great
exercise but it will only tire you out and kill your legs for your race. It is not worth it. Remember why
you are here, you are now a competitive ski racer.
NO pop, chips or chocolate bars on training or race days and all other time spend with
the NBSRC (There are far better alternatives). Coaches do not want to be monitoring your athletes
diets 24/7. Please help us monitor and guide your athletes on healthier alternatives and foods choices.
Road Trips:
For information regarding team travel, contact the Coach or Alpine Chair.
Your athlete is expected to follow the teams itinerary while on the road.
Your athlete will be able to join you after the training or races for dinner unless there is a team
meal planned.
In the event that there is a team meal planned, the parents are more than welcome to join us.
The coaching staffs ask you to respect the host families wishes of building a relationship with
your athlete, and giving your racer every chance to perform to their best ability.
