for it. They explain the different side effects that go along with each pill.

The Pregnancy Care Center is so important to the adults health to help promote a healthy sexual lifestyle. It is also
important to the child because once a woman becomes pregnant, she has to focus on the importance of a healthy lifestyle so
that the child doesnt become unhealthy. A childs development is so important inside the womb that it can greatly affect the
child in the long run. This organization is important to the community because they have a place to go to for such important
events; like finding out they have conceived, finding out about sexual diseases, and getting items that they may need to
provide for their child.

Donations include financial contributions to help with costs of the organization since everything is free to all of the clients
who go there. They accept donations for used items and new items as well to donate to people in need. Those items include:
car seats, baby clothes, maternity clothes, bottles, etc. Volunteers are always welcomed; they can help out by sorting and

Worship Services for Sunday School, Worship Services for Youth Ministries, Salvation Army Thrift Store

The Salvation Army provides adults with rehabilitation for learning to cope with their life struggles and to help reenter society by providing them with spiritual support along with a clean environment. Their programs focus on a
clean and healthy living environment where they incorporate group and individual counseling, good food, work
therapy, leisure activities, spiritual direction, and resources to develop life skills and a personal relationship with God.

The Salvation Army is a place for adults to go to receive assistance with their life struggles. They are able to find a
safe place to receive help with circumstances they were unable to cope with. This helps to get them have a healthier
relationship with themselves and others; this carries onto the child as well. The child sees their parents lifestyle
changing and it allows them to adapt. If a child learns about how important a happy, healthy lifestyle is as they are
younger, they are most likely to carry on that lifestyle. This benefits the community because it gives them a safe
place to go when they are having a tough time coping with their lifestyle choices they have made in the past and can
help them change their choices into a healthy lifestyle for not only themselves, but their family as well.

Donations include financial contributions online or in person where they have donation boxes. They also accept
donations for household items; these items include: appliances, automobiles, childrens clothing, furniture, household
goods, mens clothing, and womens clothing. Volunteers are always welcome to help on events that the Salvation

a disabled individual to work in the community.

Shares, Inc. is so important to the adult because it is allowing them to work alongside a disabled individual to help create a sense of
partnership with them. It is teaching that person a side of life that they may not have ever been able to experience due to their
inabilities. Share, Inc. gives them this opportunity to create a life they couldnt have if it wasnt for their organization. This is also
important to children as well; it can help children see this at a young age and only hope for something to help alter their world in a

Turning Point is an organization that helps women who are in a domestic violence situation
and allow them the resources to escape the situation. They give them the shelter they need
to rebuild a life without living in an abusive relationship. Their main focus is stop domestic
violence throughout the county. In doing so, they have created an intervention service that
leads a person out of that lifestyle.
Domestic Violence impacts so many adults across the country. Turning Point has a way of
intervening in this hostile situation and giving the adults a place to go to escape this lifestyle.
Some adults are just unsure of how to get away from this environment because they become
so used to it. Turning Point offers them a place to stay along with programs to help them

children and doing other sorts of activities to aid them in developing the skills
they need to learn to read on their own) and helping kids/parents find books
that they will enjoy and will engage them.

Post-Learning Assessment
1. Think back to your attitude about Service Learning prior to
your experience. Did yourexperience change or confirm your
attitude? Describe your experiences as you answer thisquestion.

I believe the service learning project taught me how to better

understand other's lifestyles versus my own and people that I am
close to. This also showed me how important it is to help others;
some people are not as fortuntate as ourselves so they aren't able
to fully provide for their family. At the Pregnancy Care Center, I was
able to see firsthand at how some people are not able to provide
for their children. They can't afford the diapers, formula, or clothes
for their child; the services that the Pregnancy Care Center provide
help so many people in the community. This is a way to show them
how important it is to help others. At the Shelby County Library, I
was able to help kids with crafts for Halloween; they offer this so
that people in the community are able to have activities to do for
holidays that people cannot afford.

Post Learning Assessment

(Continued)
2. How is your service organization important to the people it serves? What
changes would yousuggest to the director or the Board of Directors? What was
your role in the agencys delivery ofservices?

The organizations are so important to the people that are involved. At the
Pregnancy Care Center, Enola is so passionate about what she does; this allows
anyone to have a safe place to go to when pertaining to pregnancy or thoughts
throughout a pregnancy. At the library, Adrienne was so passionate about making
sure that children are able to understand the importance of reading and how it
helps you become an educated person. Being able to read well helps so many
people become higher educated. At Turning Point, Melissa wanted women to know
that domestic violence is not okay for a child or an adult to be a part of; they
need to have a safe place to go to help get them out of hostile environments. At
Shares, Allison was very involved with getting disabled people into the
community and able to have a normal life just like anyone else would; they should
not be discriminated against their disability. I was very impressed with the
amount of passion that each person had for what services they offered; they
showed me a way of being understanding about so many different situations. My
role in the delivery of services was assisting others to better understand their role
in their job. My role was also preparing items for people in need.

Post Learning
Assessment(Continued)
3. What was the best experience during your Service Learning
project? What was the worstexperience? How would you approach
this project or another project differently next time?
The best experience during my Service Learning Project was
definitely the Pregnancy Care Center. I think primarily is because
that I have two children of my own that I know how expensive my
child's needs definitely are. Some parents don't consider that when
they have a child. I loved being able to create coming home bags for
newborn babies; I do this for most of my friends when they have
children so I found this to be very important to new parents. I can't
say that I had a bad experience; I just wish that I could have been
more involved at Share's, Inc. due to each volunteer needing special
training to handle each disability that they offer. I would approach it
the same way; I loved being able to be part of four organizations and
see how each one was ran differently. I loved being able to see the
different stereotypes of people each organization helped as well.
