What is language development?

Is the process by which a child begins
to understand language and
communicate. This process starts
before birth.

Stages of development
Birth to 3 months
At this stage babies
recognice their moms
voice and other people
that are around them.
Some babies can smile
and make sounds.
They cry differently for
every need.

3 to 6 months
Babies now turn to see
the person who is talking
because they like how
their mouth moves.
They also start to mimic
sounds like m, p, b,
and vowels.

6 to 12 months

Toddlers (12-15 months)

Kids now can recognice

words as yes, no, mom,
dad, bye and others.
They now make more
than 15 sounds, repeat
syllabels and express
their mood with sounds.
They can also recognice
their name.

Kids can follow directions

and undertand more
words, like stand, hot.
They also can make
sentences of 3 or 4
words.

Preschoolers (3-5 years)

Kids keep increasing their
vocabulary and can make
a conversation.
Kids also start to read
and make the connection
between what someone
is reading, the drawings
and the words.
