Follow the guidelines in your student handbook.


Come to class prepared to work with all class materials.
Turn in all class and homework assignments in on time.
All class assignments are due on my desk in a designated tray at the time expressed by
the teacher.
5. Ask for help when you need help.
6. Everyone must be seated at the bell and stay in their seats unless authorized by the
teacher.
7. All papers turned in must have a perforated edge. That means no raggedy edges.
8. No passes 10 minutes after the bell nor 10 minutes before the bell.
9. Every student will read for at least 30 minutes a day outside of school. (ex. newspaper,
magazines, and books)
10. Above all STUDENTS MUST RESPECT ALL PEERS AND TEACHERS.
Class Description
This course traces the development of American literature and thought from pre-Colonial times
to the present through a survey of literary and technical genres, devices, and techniques
representative of integrating reading, writing, literature, speaking listening, vocabulary, library,
and critical skills.
Program Goals
1. Students will read, comprehend, interpret, analyze, evaluate and use a
variety of written materials.
2. Students will listen critically and analytically.

3. Students will write Standard English in a grammatical, well-organized and


coherent manner for a variety of purposes.
4. Students will use spoken language in formal and informal situations to
communicate effectively.
5. Students will understand and appreciate the various forms of fiction and
nonfiction representative of various cultures, eras, and ideas.
6. Students will locate, access, and process information through technology
to enable life-long learning.
7. Students will explore how language evolves and functions.
8. Students will prepare for future learning, which include the work place.

Student, Teacher, and Parent Contract


This contract binds all parties that we will do what is necessary for the student to succeed. This
means that if the student needs to stay during Communication Period he/she will attend the
session for extra help or to make up work. Everyone must be agreement that the student, teacher,
and parent need a partnership to ensure that the student succeeds in the class. Please sign the
contract (student) and have your parents sign the contract to bring back to class by Friday.
Tardy Policy
On time means in the door when the bell rings- not walking down the hallway. Please see the
student handbook for tardy consequences.
Journal
Students will have journal writing 3 times out of the week. They will be responsible for getting
them done. They will put them in the baskets in the back of the room. The journals will be
checked at the end of each week.
Hallway Passes
All hall passes should be written in the back of the students handbook.

Grading Policy

You will receive points for class work, homework, projects, tests, and quizzes.

Grading Scale will be modified only for students that have IEP modifications.
MAKE-UP WORK/LATE WORK
It is your responsibility as a student to find out what was missed when you are not in class.
You will have no more than 3 days from the day you return to make up all missing work.
The student should receive 75% of the credit earned for make-up work if
they are suspended or absent-unexcused. Failure to do so will result in NO
credit. Exams and quizzes are to be made up during CP only. No late homework will be
accepted.
