Fibroadenoma Mammae (FAM) is the most common breast lesion in
young women. There is no certain explanation for the etiology of FAM, but some of
the risk faktors are estimated to associate with the occurrence of FAM.
This study was conducted in February-May 2014 in Padang which
aimed to determine the risk faktors of FAM in young women in Padang. The
variables are body mass index (BMI), family history, physical activity, and menstrual
cycle. This research was an analytical study using case control design. The sample
was consisted of 35 cases and 70 controls. Bivariate analysis was performed using the
chi square test.
The results showed no significant correlation between BMI (p = 0.223)
and history of menstrual cycle (p = 0.084) with FAM. In other side there are
significant association between family history (p = 0.000) with OR = 8.00 (95% CI:
2.740 to 23.362) and physical activity (p = 0.000) with OR = 0.129 (95% CI: 0.051 to
0.325) with FAM. So high physical activity decrease risk of FAM in other side
family history increse risk of FAMs.
